Highly recommend playing tourist in your own town when your mama comes for a visit. Making memories one day at a time. I love you so much mom! I’m so happy we could experience this together. #granvilleisland #falsecreekferries #vancouverartgallery #queenelizabethpark #sunyatsengarden by @dutchgal

I’m a migraine girlie. I get them way too often and I’m always looking for new ways to help alleviate my chronic pain. I feel like this one needs a spot on the grid to help others find this info. A few weeks ago, I saw an IG post about this supplement and how it helps with migraine. I did a few searches, and there was quite a bit of credible research to back up its claims as a good thing to take if you have migraines. I ordered some, and it arrived at a time I was having a severe episode, I’d already taken rescue meds, which at this level of pain, were not doing anything. I took two pills and laid down, within 30 minutes the migraine had disappeared. I spoke to my neurologist about this supplement and he agreed that I was on to something. So… if you have chronic pain, inflammation, immune system issues… I highly recommend trying this. Look up PEA supplements for migraine relief and read the studies for yourself. šŸ’• by @dutchgal

My cutie patootie daughter wearing the Olga Sweater I had knit for myself. I found it a little on the small side, but it was perfect for Hannah! She’s happy to wear it and I’m even happier to know it looks so great on her! @petiteknit #olgasweater knit with mystery yarns from a garage sale and a found cardigan in bad shape from the local Little Free Fibre library that @baaadannas organizes. Yay free and inexpensive yarn! by @dutchgal

I’m so bad at taking pics when the occasion calls for it. I didn’t get a pic of my kid as she drove off for her second year at UVic, it all went by so fast this year! She came home from her job at camp, with two friends in tow, stayed long enough to do laundry and make a bit of mayhem, packed her stuff and hopped in her boyfriend’s truck back to UVic. I moped all day today, feeling sad at realizing just how fast it’s all going. Have an amazing second year at uni, kiddo!!! I miss you already. šŸ’•šŸ˜¢ by @dutchgal

Summer reads. I have been meaning to do a round up of books I read this summer, so buckle up: Junie was easily 5/5. Themes of slavery, loyalty, friendships, growth and loss. What a beautiful story! Highly recommended.

Something, not Nothing. A graphic novel about a woman whose partner is very sick and together they navigate the very difficult decision of how to navigate the pain this partner experiences. Poignant, terribly sad and unexpectedly funny at times…. 5/5 stars, Sarah Leavit knows how to make true life and love visible in a comic format. Masterful.

The Road To Tender Hearts: Funny, tender and true in matters of the heart. Fumbling and trying their best to find what’s true for each of the characters in the story, it makes for a sweet and funny book about a road trip to find family. Spoiler alert: they do, but in very unexpected ways. I laughed out loud every few pages. Annie Hartnett has true talent for writing from the heart. Thank you. 5/5 starts for me. Plus I’ll be reading everything else she writes too.

There was much praise for this movie in the media recently, so I had to reserve this at the library and read it for myself. True to Sarah Leavitt form, it’s poignant, sad and funny in the best way. She chronicles her journey with her mother, who declines slowly into Alzheimer’s. I remember my grandmother going through the same thing and nodding along in places, remembering parts of my story with her that I hadn’t thought about in years. 5/5 for encapsulating such an unfortunately universal experience in comic book form.

Wild Dark Shore: 5/5 Moody, dark, anxious and suspicious. Who is hiding what from who? There is so much to do, so many things that don’t add up. I actually loved that the ending was not perfectly satisfying and tied up neatly. Amazing character development!

The Wedding People: 5/5 for character development and taking a reader on an unexpected ride. You expect one thing when you start the book but it takes a ride you never saw coming. I was not expecting to like either of the main characters much but yeah, good writing will do that.

Happy Father’s Day to this dude. He’s got a ton of skills that save our butts constantly. Not bad for a guy who can’t fold a bedsheet or any square of fabric neatly to save his life!! I know that’s his only flaw and I know how lucky we are to have him. Love you the most, thank you for always being three steps ahead. šŸ’•šŸ’• by @dutchgal

Happy birthday to my favourite dude, at his favourite place doing his favourite thing…. You make me better. I’m the lucky one, getting to be the one making you laugh, getting to be the one to receive your thoughtfulness, care and time, your deep research into whatever product or adventure we are considering. I hope this year is one filled with more of the mischief you love so much. I love you. by @dutchgal
