POSSESSION (1981) 😱🐍

INHUMAN ECSTASY FULFILLED.

A young woman left her family for an unspecified reason. The husband determines to find out the truth and starts following his wife. At first, he suspects that a man is involved. But gradually, he finds out more and more strange behaviors and bizarre incidents that indicate something more than a possessed love affair.

👀➡️ Second time watch. Admittedly don’t remember a ton of the plot, just the visceral feelings of watching it. Kevin calls it “Kramer vs Kramer, but with a sex monster.” Ok! ❤️‍🔥

ROSEMARY’S BABY (1968) 😈🍼

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU’RE EXPECTING.

A young couple, Rosemary and Guy, moves into an infamous New York apartment building, known by frightening legends and mysterious events, with the purpose of starting a family.

👀➡️ Maybe the most disturbing of the Unholy Trinity? There’s something so insidious about the arc of betrayals in this story, with an effective air that’s haunting and claustrophobic. Mia Farrow goes through the wringer, looking like a style icon the entire time. Ruth Gordon walked so Amy Madigan could run (with her arms behind her).

SOCIETY (1989) 🤑🤮

IT’S ALL ABOUT FITTING IN.

Bill Whitney is worried that he is different from his sister and parents. They mix with other upper-class people while Bill is more down to earth. Even his girlfriend seems a bit odd. All is revealed when Bill returns home to find a party in full swing.

👀➡️ This movie is wild. Wiiiiild. Worth a watch just for the creations of Screaming Mad George and the final scene. A couple of LOLs and more than one WTF. Let’s go! 😱

THE OTHERS (2001) 👻🕯️

SOONER OR LATER THEY’LL FIND YOU.

Grace is a religious woman who lives in an old house kept dark because her two children, Anne and Nicholas, have a rare sensitivity to light. When the family begins to suspect the house is haunted, Grace fights to protect her children at any cost in the face of strange events and disturbing visions.

👀➡️ Y’all this movie is good. Has anyone had a better run than Nicole Kidman did in the early 00s? Nawr!

SUSPIRIA (2018) ❤️‍🔥💃

GIVE YOUR SOUL TO THE DANCE.

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.

👀➡️ It’s Dakota Johnson’s birthday! 🎂 But really, ANY excuse to watch this movie. You know we’re a Luca house, and this is one of the reasons why. How is this a comfort movie? I DON’T KNOW, but... tis. The score, the performances, the very very very specific frequency at which it operates. It trades Goblin for Thom Yorke and technicolor for bleached and desaturated. It’s like if David Fincher remade Amélie, und wir lieben es!

And to make it a real pas de deux... a double feature! 🍿🍿

SUSPIRIA (1977) 💖💃

DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WITCHES?

An American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.

👀➡️ The OG! Lush and electric. A great gateway into Argento. Not quite giallo, but if this one makes you dance, keep going.

CARRIE (1976) 🪩🩸

If you’ve got a taste for terror… take Carrie to the prom.

Withdrawn and sensitive teenager Carrie White faces bullying from classmates and abuse from her fanatically pious mother. When she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers, things take a dark and violent turn.

👀 I mean, come on. Was there another choice for #MeanGirls day? Sissy and Piper giving award-worthy performances and director Brian De Palma Hitchcock-ing his face off. Surprisingly scary and incredibly sad… no matter how many times I watch, it still feels like it might end differently.

You will know her name. ❤️‍🔥

FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) 📺❤️‍🔥

There are some very good reasons to be afraid of the dark.

Charlie Brewster, a teenager believing that the newcomer in his neighborhood is a vampire. He turns to an actor in a television hosted horror movie show for help to deal with the undead.

👀 A house favorite. Gets better with every watch. Lots of LOLs and a few genuine scares. Sexy and v v queer.

FADE TO BLACK (1980) 💋🍿

A shy, lonely film buff embarks on a killing spree against those who browbeat and betray him, all the while stalking his idol, a Marilyn Monroe lookalike.

👀 Very fun way to kick off the season, a quirky, queer-coded hidden gem about horror movie fandom gone a wee bit too far…

just posting now but this production of Jekyll and Hyde at the Broadway Playhouse at Water is extraordinarily powerful. And those voices! David Moreland (as Jekyll AND Hyde - and how does he do that?) and Ava Lane Stovall and Emily McCormick are so darn good, they could just sing these songs in a concert hall. The show has numerous show stopping songs. You must see this show! @broadwayinchicago @watertowertheatre @dvbarham @dvbarham @david.t.moreland @avalanestovall @emilygmccormick @jekyllandhyde.ke #broadwayinchicago #stevedale #chicagotheater #jekyllandhyde #davidmoreland taken in Broadway Playhouse by @dvbarham
