Inkwell from @dvcgames is an awesome cube placement game for 1-4 players. You want to complete 3 pages in a way that gets you the most points. Different wells have different amounts of cubes and benefits in them so you need to time when you take from where. Use the powers and extras to your advantage! This game is compact, easy to teach, and has fun strategy. #game #boardgames #hobby #solo #collection by @dvcgames

REVIEW: Inkwell by @dvcgames @zatutrade

Inkwell is a drafting based race game that sees players join the ranks of the Master Illuminators, attempting to complete the illustrations for three manuscript pages.

You'll take turns either drafting cubes or turning the page. To draft you'll take cubes from one of the spaces on the board, placing these onto your page. There are circles that have 3 cubes, stars which have one gold cube, and diamonds that have 2 cubes and a technique card. Technique cards give instant or ongoing abilities that can help you as you progress through the game. If any shape of inkwell is depleated, the board is replenished and the abbot moves one space. The abbot can force players to turn their pages early and helps progress the game naturally.

If you turn the page, you score everything on your current page and starts the next one. Continue until all players have scored all three pages, and whoever has the most points wins.

Thoughts:
✒️I loved Inkwell, its simple to learn and easy to play, but tricky to fully complete your pages due to player interaction.
✒️The abbot is a really good mechanism for progressing the game, if you are ahead you can force players to turn their page before theyre ready which I really liked.
✒️The components are gorgeous. I love the cloth board. The texture is incredible! I'm so glad to see something other than velvet or felt feeling cloths! Also the gold cubes are metal and feel really satisfying!
✒️Really appreciated the marks on the basic cubes for accessibility, I'm not colourblind, but in low light these really helped distinguish between blue and green!
✒️The technique cards are reallt important, I liked that you can only take two per page, but each new page means you can take more.
✒️There is some nice action chaining, almost engine building elements here. Importantly too, there are more than one of the same technique card so all players have the chance to access them.

Overall I absolutely loved Inkwell, it looks stunning, plays quickly with a good puzzle, you're building patterns and drafting based on what you need to complete your page. The light engine building is very satisfying. Highly recommend! by @dvcgames

And that’s a wrap!

Two incredible games are done with development. This is exciting but also leaves a feeling of “What now?” or “What did we miss?”

Well there is always the next adventure, but both of these were such a ride. We hope you will love them as much as us. Plus, the pre-orders are already up with a discount, if you want to reserve copies now (our print runs empty faster than we expect!)

We made a cozy game about photos and perspective!

Like some of our other ‘nice’ titles, it doesn’t have to be mean or cutthroat, instead letting each player puzzle through finding that perfect picture. But if someone else moves just the right something, your puzzle is now different in a whole new way. And so many turns feel like cheating, which we like.

Hopefully we will have a few copies at PAXU, then get the game out in January!

Getting through a full draft of a whole game, in this case Thieves’ Cant, our extroverts vs introverts communication game made with Jesse Panther and @artbrister

I like printing the game out section-by-section to think out progress, and to find if the game has a unified style. by @dvcgames
