Here we have another excellent release from DVC games. Here Lies is a game about playing histories greatest investigators. You try to solve their unsolved cases. The lead investigator is in charge of guiding the game. I believe Volume 2 has either launched recently or will be available soon.

🎲: Playthings
⚙️Designers: Jasper Beatrix, Jerry Bright Jr., Joey Palluconi
🎨Artist: Nick Tofani
🏢: @dvcgames
👥: 3–5 Players
⏱️: 20–30 Min

This is my second experience with DVC Games, and I have to admire the creativity they bring every time. Playthings is no exception, unlike anything I’ve played before.

One player becomes the Night Terror hiding toy tokens around a cloth house map while everyone else sits with eyes closed. The Night Terror announces each toy before placing it face down, creating this delicious tension of hearing your toy named and desperately wanting to peek.

But the real magic is in the sensory mechanics, and I genuinely haven’t seen anything like this in another game. You get traps you can set, sliding your fingers under the mat to feel vibrations as tokens get placed, scattering tiny bells across rooms as sound traps so you hear a jingle when something lands nearby, even tying a string to the Night Terror’s wrist to track their movement by feel. You’re gathering information with everything except your eyes, and the game actively encourages you to get creative about how you cheat your way into knowing more.

Players can also straight up peek, but getting caught comes with real punishment, so it’s a constant risk calculation.

Theme and components tie together beautifully too, soft colors, spooky-cute illustrations, everything feels intentional down to the last detail.

If you love deduction or sensory challenges, this is a totally new experience. Chaotic, a little ridiculous, and genuinely unlike anything else on your shelf.

✅ GREAT FOR: fans of deduction and sensory games, groups who enjoy semi-cooperative chaos

PACTS - @dvcgames

DVC Games have fast become one of my favourite to pull of the shelf, first with Karnak, then I picked up Corvids, and now again with the fantastic Pacts.

Area control at two players, whilst still having great tactical choices to make, special powers to use, and all whilst still feeling lovely and balanced. Look no further!

The simple age old classic I split you choose mechanic is implemented here so wonderfully, with cards on offer that let you place your cubes, move your cubes, score points, or use you clans amazing ability…….and some of those abilities hit hard. Taking one of the sets will also mean giving up going first, but maybe it’s better to see what your opponent does!

Fighting over the 6 regions everything feels manageable and tight. There’s a good amount of thinking involved, to make sure you play out your actions in the optimal order!

Absolutely fantastic game with gorgeous art, great mechanics, and perfect balance. One to get out again and again, as it’s quick to set up and get playing straight away.

DVC have nailed it again 👌🏻👍🏻

We take a quick peak at Corvids. It just barely fits into our halloween games for the month. You play the birds trying to collect and occasionally steal shiny objects from one another.

'Tis the season

👻👻👻

I released my top 10 spooky season board games last week and during that video, just talking about the games again, made me want to play them again. I literally said during the taping of the video that it was making me want to play these board games.

So I did.

So the last week or so I returned to some of the smaller shorter spooky games when I had time, one of them being Scream Park by @dvcgames . This was one I hadn't heard of, and I actually say I am not a spooky, scary vibes person. Although now I find myself rewatching some epic 90s spooky movies like Scream & Final Destination that reminds me of childhood lol 😅. Then I somehow loved most of Mike Flanagan's movies... and finding more "horror" that has heavy plot, character development, and pop culture references/something to say about society ... but with its scary/thriller/suspense twists.

ANYWAYS, Scream Park is about you opening your own spooky seasonal park and needing to put on a great opening weekend. The game lasts 3 rounds where each round you are appealing to a different "VIP" character that gives bonus points for particular scenes or icons present in your Scream park. You are just drafting scene cards and turning them into scenes that have icon requirements to score at end game, or drafting to add a card with certain icons to a previously played scene in your park. Part of the twist, scenes have point values of 2, 4, or 6 and as soon as you play a scene 4 card into your area, you can no longer play any other 2 point scene parks without paying a cost to place a scene out of order.

👻👻👻

Each drafting round has you collect a total of 8 cards, then round scoring, then after 3 rounds, end game scoring. In solo you need 80 + points to win. It is simple & light but also quick and addictive to not just play back to back when you have a chance. It def fits well on my top 10 spooky games for me.

What better way to kick off my 13 Games of Halloween than with SCREAM PARK?! It’s created by Syracuse-based @dvcgames (you may know them from Corvids, Inkwell, Pacts, or their upcoming release Dust, co-designed by my friend @tokengaymer!) and is all about designing your own haunted house.

Fun fact: did you know that many of the folks at DVC Games are also connected with @frightmarefarms?! So *of course* they made a board game about creating your own haunted house!

Scream Park uses card drafting and tableau-building to create your own haunted attraction. Each card either adds a new room to the park or improves one that is already there. Match your rooms to your park’s theme and impress the VIP guests to score the most points!

1-5 players, 30 minutes to play.

Day 17 of #solotober2026 and I got 'Inkwell' by @dvcgames to the table this morning. 🎨

This is one of my favourite games at the moment! It has a lovely play mat, beautiful components and a strategic cube-drafting mechanic that I really enjoy. It's just as enjoyable solo as it is with a group.

A lovely way to start what turned out to be a somewhat chaotic day! 🤣 Perhaps this is how I should start every day? A little bit of solo gaming to set me up for whatever life throws my way. 💜🎲
