// sorrow in bliss //

the final track of my ep is now available on all streaming platforms. you can now stream the ep in its entirety.

i sent my friend, brilliant photographer/videographer @stuartwieten the ep and asked if he wanted to make something for one of the tracks. he chose this one and shot it on 8mm 🎞️.

creating this song was a really special moment where things came together unexpectedly. i remember having these individual processed piano phrases, arranging them together visually at first, and then hitting play and being captivated by the result.

thanks so much to everyone who listens to my music.

My new ep, passage through the insubstantial, is out today on @shimmeringmoodsrecords. In making this music, I’m trying to capture something ineffable. It never ceases to fill me with awe that a wordless medium can speak so completely. I hope you get a chance to listen.

The ep is exclusively on Bandcamp for the time being (link in stories/bio). If you’re not familiar, Bandcamp is an artist-centric platform that allows you to directly support the music in your collection, away from the big tech overlords.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Bandcamp listening party yesterday. Felt so good to listen together and the response exceeded my expectations.

Been a long road but I’m officially a licensed marriage and family therapist. Gonna be practicing in Redondo Beach in person, and virtually all over California. Bearing witness to the human condition in this form is an honor. by @dylanjohnsonsound

OUT NOW! Very excited to release this remix from Human Age today - @900x and I released this original track (as part of my EP) in 2022 and I always thought some remixes would fun down the line. I asked @human__age if they would be interested and very lucky for me that they obliged - I am such a fan of your work! Always endlessly inspiring and cool ideas - many, many thank you’s //
I hope you all love this remix this as much as I do!

Incredible week in France learning with @samvoltek and an amazing group of artists/new friends. Sam is a master of his craft, and a very bright and kind human.

A few highlights were hiking in the stunning beauty of the French Pyrenees, mid-day river swims, local beers, jam sessions. Some great discussion around impediments to the creative process, and ways of getting unstuck and into flow. So excited to make music. taken in Aulus-les-Bains by @dylanjohnsonsound

[natalie]: I met Dylan through a mutual friend and I am so happy how this collaboration turned out - such stunning production - it was such a privilege to be part of it - Thanks for having me, friend! // I don’t dive deep on here much anymore, but I wanted to share a bit - the creation of this song landed at such an interesting point in my life - all artists experience self-doubt pretty consistently, myself very much included, it’s part of the game - but the deepness of this self-doubt I was going through at the time was so unfamiliar to me, paralyzing even. I was able to write this lyrically and melodically as a meditation for myself, and I hope that it can be that for you too. Thanks for listening!

[dylan]: I first heard Natalie sing a few years ago, and was immediately drawn to her distinctly warm and soft voice. I wrote these chords on a piano, and as they started to take shape, added a beat. I sent her this track, and she took it to a beautiful place melodically and lyrically, which aligned with the emotional color of the song. The excitement of hearing back the results of what she added was absolutely incredible. Inspired by her performance, I developed it a bit more. I feel so lucky to collaborate with nat and call her a friend. Hope you enjoy it! by @dylanjohnsonsound
