There’s a massive difference between just carrying gear and actually being prepared. When you’re heading off the beaten path, every ounce counts, and every tool needs to earn its keep. It’s not about carrying everything; it’s about carrying exactly what you need.

Did you know that one of the most decisive naval battles in history is the reason we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary?

On this exact day—October 7, in 1571—an alliance of Christian forces known as the Holy League sailed into the Gulf of Patras to face the formidable Ottoman Empire fleet. It was the Battle of Lepanto, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher: the defense of Christian Europe hung entirely in the balance.

Knowing the fleet was heavily outnumbered, Pope Pius V knew they needed more than just military might. He called upon the faithful across all of Europe to unite and wield a spiritual weapon: the Holy Rosary.

As the battle raged, the wind miraculously shifted in favor of the Holy League, breaking the Ottoman lines and leading to a stunning, decisive victory. Pope Pius V credited this historic triumph not to naval superiority, but directly to the prayers of the faithful and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

To honor this miracle, he established the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, which was later renamed the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary—celebrated every year on October 7th!

History reminds us that no matter what battles we face, prayer is a powerful force.

October is the month of the Rosary. Don’t forget to armor up spiritually. The Rosary is our primary weapon. Like David, we must prepare for the day we meet our Goliath. Practice our sling and get reps in day after day to strengthen our capabilities and resolve. 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober-minded; be vigilant. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

When you choose the EDC lifestyle, you have to be adaptable. It’s not always a one size fits all situation. The more options you have, the better. This requires different tools and different ways to carry the tools. Assess your lifestyle and armor up accordingly.
