QUEER JAM IS BACK in a beautiful new home 🏡

we are SO lucky that our friends at conspire (a very special queer DIY studio in bed-stuy) have opened their doors to us. they’ve built the space with somuch care (yes, even the handmade speakers) & we couldn’t think of a better spot for our monthly gatherings.

we’re excited to come together to hone our personal freestyle practices (across all styles), to (re)discover our queer dancestors, to take turns facilitating our friends’ growth, to relaunch / laugh / break bread / take a risk / fall on our asses / learn a new approach / recommit to our practices / connect with ourselves & each other.

bring a friend or two! @cleo__perez will be blessing the decks for us. eMBody will lead for September but we’re excited for a new season of facilitators.

eMBody is a movement collective created by Madeline Nobida (she/her) and Bella Stenvall (she/her), both queer, mixed Asian-American dancers and choreographers based in the unceded homeland of the Lenape people (colonially known as Brooklyn, New York).

eMBody revels in the spaces where genres and disciplines crossover and facilitates spaces where different styles and forms can learn from each other. They consider themselves life-long students of many movement practices and believe that everyone has embodied knowledge that can shape and inform dance-making.

Their work continues to explore communal experiences of catharsis and celebration, ones that are participatory in nature and can exist anywhere from a proscenium stage to a park jam.

UPROOTED 2026: May 19th & 20th dancers, musicians, singers, movers (artists) from all backgrounds transformed (quite literally) the Stone Circle Theater into a vessel for explosive joy, wrenching grief, reclamation of power, discussion through form, social imagination and (quite honestly) the entire range of the human experience. A genuine moment of sparkling, heated, electric collectivism and a harmony of voices 🪽

Lately I been telling myself I don’t care what it looks like, so long as it’s honest. I’m tryna hold myself to that.

My latest piece •ORI•

Thank you @e.mb.ody for giving me the space and timeee to explore these themes of Paradise. Thank you videographers @gnartnaod89 @malikm_ and photographers @beautyiseverywhereee for all of your hard work capturing these amazing snippets.

The paradise I explored in this piece is the acceptance of feelings exactly as they are, not a forcing to be somewhere else. If you’re going through shit you’re in it, ain’t no point tryna be all positive pretending you not IN the shit you know (which is not to say optimism and faith aren’t also necessitated) but don’t be negligent to your struggle. You can’t change what you don’t face. There’s a honesty to it to accept where you are and a paradise that comes from the surrender of what is and the knowing that you don’t need to be anywhere else!

There’s a cultivation of my Ori, my personal Orisha, my head, right now that is to be deeply honest with my capacity and just to accept what is without tryna change it to something else whether it’s pushing myself to do things I really don’t have the energy for or what have you. ACCEPTANCE, key word fr.

Anyways, that’s what I was working through here,: all the phases of me and making space for their multitudes while aligning towards my purpose. Being honest, fuck what it look like. Eyes deceive.
