Got myself lost on mountain time…✨⛰️ Spent some time in the San Juan’s last week and celebrated the beautiful wedding of my ridiculously multitalented cousin @evan.c.tyler to the altogether extraordinary @oliviaatyler. What a special place that’s dear to our family, and now even more so—hearing this gulch reverberate with their love was so so special. by @e.reese

my #mariellescarf, finished just in time for autumn…🍂✨

@mariasverden_ designed a beautiful project that i knit up in @knittingforolive merino in dark cognac, and @knittingforolive soft silk mohair in dark mustard that i had in my stash from a previous project, and purchased at my fav local yarn store @dandelionfibermpls. i really enjoyed the lacework, and it knits up quickly once you’ve got the hang of things.

i can’t wait to wear my little shawl over jackets and coats during the colder months ahead! by @e.reese

The fog completely enshrouded us on our journey to Washington Island last week. My heart was full up to have my love here, and on top of that: James and Greg, who make every occasion a beautiful celebration. We sat on the foggy, windy shore for hours with a gorgeous picnic of treats brought all the way from @martysdeli and @surdykscheese at home, and it really buoyed my spirit (and made me dreadfully homesick). This place is beautiful; and friends, love, and magic days make it even more beautiful. by @e.reese

I started properly knitting a little less than a year ago…and boy has it changed me. 🧶

I have always been a person who enjoys making. Whether that is visual art, performing art and storytelling, or now through fiber…but it’s so nice to have a hobby I can take with me anywhere. And I certainly do.

My knitting comes with me pretty much everywhere it’s socially acceptable, and sometimes I push it. You may have encountered me with a project at coffee shop, a porch hang, on an airplane or the passenger seat of a car, before a show, on a zoom call, in a park, at a wine bar…

My mind is quieted by the repetitive movements, and the practice of patience. My creativity is ignited by the joy of making something with nothing but my hands, two sticks, and a ball of yarn. I love playing with color, learning new techniques, and meeting people who also knit who are from different generations or backgrounds than my own.

I find myself mindlessly scrolling less.
My social media looks like the Ravelry homepage now.
I understand garment construction in new ways, and would rather invest in making something bespoke that I wear every day, than buying something mass-produced made of plastic that I then toss aside casually.

If you’re curious, dive in.

Make a Ravelry account. Ask questions. There’s never been a better time to be a maker—so many teachers are easily accessible and give their knowledge to the community for free via social media, YouTube and more!

I am so happy I took the leap. On days like today when I find myself sitting in the sun feeling the cotton flow through my hands…stitch by stitch making something I’ll wear on repeat for years to come—all the learning feels so worth it. Oh! And don’t forget to invite me to knit and chill with you…I’ll be there.

Back to Rep! 🎭 ….

Happiest in my work when gathered amidst fellow language-lovers, and the birds. I’m very greatful to be digging into two plays that have been on my list for ages (how long ago was college now? 😅), and the hustle of putting both plays up in just a month is madcap and real.

But the thing is—every time I think something seems impossible, I learn something new about myself and my process of approaching these plays. I’m excited to discover more as we go, but for now, I’m just having a little moment of gratitude as I’m welcomed to the penninusla to start this adventure at @doorshakespeare. by @e.reese

In my wildest dreams I couldn’t have envisioned this would be my home for @thisisyourcolor.

The studio is exactly as I hoped it would be—full of good vibes, high ceilings, natural light, and creaky floors. It is inspiring to spend my time in such a beautiful space and awesome neighborhood, and even more than that—inspiring to help people find their confidence and bring ease to their daily routines through color.

I’ve told friends this, but one of the crazy things about being an actor is you make something you believe in, and you hope it helps people. You hope the play you made acts as a kind of open heart surgery and moves things around mentally, or shifts hearts maybe for someone out there in the dark. But unless you’re really lucky and someone stops you to say something on the street—you kinda can’t know if what you’re doing is actually making a difference in anyone’s life. You trust it is, but never know.

One of the great joys of starting @thisisyourcolor is that I get to see directly how what I do helps people. I get to see their faces light up, I get to experience their excitement. People reach out to share their experiences and share how things are going…and BOY HOWDY that fills my cup up! To have the privilege to do something creative, and to craft a beautiful experience for strangers to help them see how individual and beautiful they are…that’s something I never dreamed I would get to feel when I sat on my couch and had the first inkling of what this would be. And this is just the beginning.

Here’s to many more COLORFUL years of this to come.

Still thinking about our whirlwind day-hike from the South rim of the Grand Canyon, to the river…and back, last month. It was a wonderful reminder of the incredible things our bodies are capable of. Being in that canyon and experiencing awe on that scale was profound. As a New Year approaches, I’m prioritizing giving my body what it needs to carry me through all the other adventures I’m dreaming of, and I’m reminding myself that my mobility, strength, and flexibility are limited resources that I am steward of. There are incredible ways to see the world that we won’t have access to forever, so let’s care for our bodies and never put off making our daydreams a reality! ☀️ taken in Grand Canyon National Park by @e.reese

Canyon Magic is real. Brian and I hiked South Kaibab Trail to the Colorado River, took Tonto west, and then climbed out of the Grand Canyon on Bright Angel Trail in one crazy day. We hit the trail at sunrise, got to watch the sun set across the canyon walls, and then spent the last mile and a half hiking in the silent dark with the moon and our headlamps guiding us up, up, up. Perhaps the toughest hike of my life thus far (5,000ft of steep elevation loss and gain was relentless on my knees), it was entirely worth it. Our world is so full of beauty to treasure and preserve, and to spend a day doing nothing but being humbled and awed by it was balm for our souls. taken in Grand Canyon National Park by @e.reese
