As I am seeing @veschwab in a few days for her Victorious tour stop in Manchester, I thought it was about time I shared my incredible experience at her Notts Bury Our Bone in the Midnight Soil stop back in July 2025. I had the very lucky experience of being able to meet Victoria prior to the signing due to my amazing friend Lina who is a German bookseller who needed an assistant for the day. And in preparation for this event, I decided to make over 40 friendship bracelets celebrating the iconic Toxic Lesbian Vampire book that is Bury Our Bones. I gave them out to Victoria and their team, the staff working the event and to people in the audience. I wanted to give strangers a token of queerness while at a Sapphic book release during Pride Month. I wanted to celebrate, and this evening was a wonderful way to do it. Honouring Queer authors, writing queer stories. I had an incredible time listening to authors discussing writing craft and why vampires are just so darn interesting. Thank you @waterstonesnotts for hosting. Thank you @torbooks @torbooksuk. And a huge thank you to the most wonderful friend a person can ask for, @lina_queen_of_scars. I’m really looking forward to doing it all again in a few days to celebrate the highly anticipated Victorious. 🖤❤️🩷

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting @authoradalyngrace earlier this month. Both myself and @redhair_and_wheels laughed our way through the entire event. Adalyn was hilarious, nerdy and a real pleasure to hear from. Sooooo many staff members and authors whispered to me that this book is AMAZING. After hearing all about it, I have no doubt this book is going to destroy me in the best of ways. Congratulations on the release of The Wretched Divine last month. I cannot wait to devour this book. Also, you have to check out Adalyn’s shoes! Inspired by her new novel, they are wretchedly divine indeed. I LOVE dressing/doing my makeup to match either a theme/image within the book or the cover of the book itself. I love it even more when an author does it too. There were even two fantastic cosplayers behind us. This was a true nerdy feast. Thank you for such a wonderful night @authoradalyngrace, it was lovely to meet you. As always, a big thank you to @waterstonesnotts for running this event, we had the BEST time. 🤍❤️

Recently I attended the book launch of local Nottingham author @charlottebplumb, interviewed by another local author @franceswhiteauthor. Whenever we get an author from Nottingham it is a real treat, but to have two, it was incredibly special. Not only that, the book sounds FANTASTIC! The audience were giggling at some hilarious character comparisons and internally snapping our fingers at the correlations to real world power struggles and the importance of feminist literature. It was truly a great night and wish Charlotte a huge congratulations on starting this journey! And as someone who has begun to dig into the first few pages, this book is not one to miss. Introducing you to Reap & Sow by Charlotte B. Plumb 👏👏👏. Charlotte will be attending @yalc_uk 2026 which I’m very excited for after hearing her discuss Reap & Sow the other night. So, make sure you check it out. out. Especially check out the Special Edition of this book because SHE IS STUNNING. Thank you @waterstonesnotts for putting this event together as always. X

Had the most amazing night with @thechloegong and @thekatedylan talking all things dystopian science fiction. We dove into writing craft, such as seeing characters as blobs, but, you know, hot blobs of course. My favourite quote of the night though was definitely “These tech bros read science fiction book and completely missed the point.” Inspired by the technology envisioned by science fiction writers but seemed to fully skip over the warnings within those pages about maniacal, power hungry, jack asses hell bent on destroying the world for their own gain. Hmmmm, whoever could we be speaking about? Science fiction has been an integral part of society’s developments for a long time. It is the space to invent, revision but it always comes with a warning because development without care of consequence is purposeful abuse of power. As, having the space to invent, is a privilege in and of itself and shouldn’t be in the hands of those so readily willing to abuse it. This night was so insightful and also, down right hilarious. Kate and Chloe together were the perfect duo. Thank you @waterstonesnotts for a fantastic evening as always.

I have so many other bookish adventures to share with you so stay tuned. But for now, I have a question I’d love you to answer! Which science fiction book made the biggest impact on you?

As it is officially now Spooky Season with the welcoming of October, I’m releasing a whole bunch of book events I’ve been to that have some, shall we say, bite to them. Themed around the Scary and the Paranormal. So, keep an eye out and happy October.

First on the list, the amazing Hungerstone by @katalicedunn. A story I can’t wait to read during the darker months. One filled with feminine rage and sapphic vampires.

Can’t believe it was two years ago I first attend a @veschwab event! It was for the paperback release of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue at Waterstones Nottingham. Not only was it an incredible night where I got to hear such incredible writing advice and we all collectively admired nature. Also all related to the notion of ‘no thoughts, only vibes.’ When it comes to our favourite characters. It was an especially fun author Q&A as it was V’s best mate who did the interview! Which made it twice as chaotic and twice as insightful. As all best friends do in the best of ways. Speaking of friends, it was also a special night because, between this evening and the night before where I met Samantha Shannon for the first time, I met some of the most amazing people who I am so grateful to say have now been my closest friends for two years. So, to say the least. I can’t wait to see V.E. Schwab back at Waterstones Notts for my most anticipated book of the year, Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil. Toxic, Lesbian, Vampires… what’s not to love!!! #bookstagram #bookblogger taken in Nottingham, United Kingdom by @ea_sanderson

I had the absolute joy of being able to see @debharkness again this year. Everytime I see Deborah I come away so creatively energised! Her attitude towards her own writing is so beutiful to be around. The way her own story brings her so much intrigue and excitement it’s truly inspiring. Having that much love and positive energy towards your own work. It’s amazing.

I have been very fortunate now to see Deborah Harkness three times, twice in relation to The Black Bird Oracle (pre-read and post-read). One of my favourite parts is the Q&A. It’s so fascinating to see what other readers are curious about and their perspective on a story you love. To hear new answers to questions you hadn’t even thought of is the best part of the whole experience especially when it’s with Deborah Harkness. Every time I learn something new that makes me squeal as I add it to my list of theories or creatively writing fuel.

Deborah is such a talented writer. Her stories have brought me and others a tremendous amount of joy. Honestly, my recent re-read of her books has been the main way I have gotten through my three procedures. I even spent my time in recovery making #AllSouls themed friendship bracelets/necklaces for myself and as a thank you to Deborah and she very kindly signed my previous All Souls project, my tote bag painting, in return.

This author is not only a person I look up to but has created such a wide array of female characters that I aspire to also. Her life and the trajectory of her characters lives are so fascinating and show such strength, determination and a willingness to learn and grow.

If I implore you to start one new series this year, let it be this. It’s a story full of wonder and power, diverse representation and beautiful representations of women of all ages. It’s one you simply must read on your life time. #deborahharkness #allsoulstrilogy #TheBlackBirdOracle #ADiscoveryOfWitches #BookLover #bookstagram @daemonsdomain #bookblogger #author #booknerd #fantasybooks Thank you @waterstonesleeds @debharkness taken in Waterstones Leeds by @ea_sanderson

I want to give Deborah Harkness a massive congratulations on the release of The Black Bird Oracle! The fifth book in the #AllSouls series. A discovery of witches will always hold a special place in my heart for me. It’s one of the first books I was able to share with my dad and other people in my life. Also, seeing you, Deborah, in 2019 was transformative for me. I was so inspired by your insight into writing and the the joy of reading that I found a home in that community and started attending book events and connecting with people by later book blogging and now I run my own book club. It also feels like we all have been through so much collectively since 2019, both of us having to face difficult times with our health, on top of a pandemic. I am so happy to see you on the other side of that struggle and thriving and writing again. It was truly a joy to reconnect and to be inspired all over again. I can’t wait to share another Matthew and Diana tale with my dad and with the bookish community. I’ve even gone back and binge watched the entire show, loved it, AGAIN, and then realised it wasn’t enough and have been feverishly devouring the audiobook of a discovery of witches. Finding so many more clues and links to the ongoing prophecy and saying in the dead of night while stopping to tab pages “she’s a genius!” Even finding something in the first chapter of book one that interplays with the entire story and prophecy that had me laughing out loud at 1:00am. Theories that I won’t share as I know some people close to me have begun reading the all souls series. But I’ll say, there’s something special in chapter one that I think links in to someone, incredible special and bright later in the books 😉.
Congratulations again! Now I must choose to either binge read the trilogy before devouring The Black Bird Oracle or giving in to temptation. Ahhhh, hard decisions must be made. Thank you for an incredible series that shows the complexity the genre of paranormal can truly have. #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookish #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #amreading #bookblogger #bookblogging #books #TheBlackBirdOracle #allsoulstrilogy #adiscoveryofwitches #deborahharkness taken in Nottingham, United Kingdom by @ea_sanderson

I know my presence on bookstsgram has been non existent for a good long while.
But I thought it was time I shared some of my recent bookish adventures with you.

The biggest adventure being that I reached out to other people like me, who had a love or a keen desire to get into diverse fantasy fiction, in March 2023 and ended up with the best and most loving friendship group ever! We are a book club that has not yet collectively read a book! Because we are too busy talking about books! Haha!

We’ve been up to many shenanigans over the last year+. We’ve been to a Fae ball, had a Twilight sleepover, had craft sessions, gone pottery painting and now have incredible plans to go to lots of author events and to celebrate Pride Month in style this June!

But this time I’m sharing with you our trip to Bath to go meet the famous @lbardugo hosted by @mrbsemporium

Leigh was absolutely incredible and despite being the only one up on that stage she made the experience so personable and it felt like a conversation. She’s hilarious and so charismatic and it was truly wonderful hearing Leigh’s take on writing craft. As a reader and a hopeful writer it was amazing to sit and listen.

The next day we had a very small trip into Bath to visit the stunning @toppingsbath . It was the most beautiful book shop I think I’ve ever seen and the staff were lovely. I could have sat watching the world go by all day in there.

Basically, it was a great trip with members of the Fantasy Book Social Club and I can’t wait to go on more trips with the full gang.

I am so incredibly lucky to have found kind, compassionate, hilarious people who I feel completely safe with and can share my passions with! Always reach out for the people who make you feel at home. In their company and in your own skin. That’s when you know what true friendship is.

Speak to you all soon,

Love Emily x

Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈❤️

So sorry I’ve been behind lately with posting, especially with it being Pride Month. I know a lot of us are struggling right now with what's been happening. With the shooting in Oslo. The removal of human rights for AFAB people throughout the U.S. and whispers of other counties wanting to follow, such as my own. The abhorrent dismissal of Trans Rights across the world. The further threats toward LGBTQ+ relationships and marriage. Pride celebrations turning into Protests like what we saw in Istanbul recently. We all have been fighting hard and have been hit hard and have an even harder fight ahead of us.

I usually start my Pride post with ‘Happy Pride!’ but I know right know ‘happy’ can be a really tough word to hear with everything. So, I wanted to give you a space to simply be with any feeling you have.

If you want to leave a comment with what your favourite moment of Pride month was, I’m here for your positivity. If you want to leave the names of abortion access charities you think we should check out, please leave them. If you just need to vent I’m here for you.

I do sincerely hope that all of you who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community have had the space this month to connect with other queer people, to celebrate, to really find some joy despite all the pain we have collectively endured this month. As always know this is a safe space. Ally here, always and forever. With everything that’s happening I just wanted to let you know you are loved, valued and are a gift to this world. I will always stand with you anyway I can. We need to stick together. Love to you all.

I hope you enjoy this picture of Heartstopper. I met Alice Oseman back in 2019 and have been so excited to read her book ever since.

Yesterday I started my reread of an incredible book by @say_shannon

The Bone Season.

It’s my pick for a book club I am a part of. You may have heard me mention in the past @thebacklistbookclub but there are exciting things going on behind the scenes. We are working on making it a shared experience so that you too can join us in celebrating amazing BIPOC, Disabled and LGBTQ+ authors and characters.

So, I’m back in Sheol-1 with Paige and Warden and the horrors that reside there. As represented by this awesome candle from @midnightflamecandles

It’s such an incredible books with the most unique take on the notion of auras and psychic connections I’ve ever seen.

If you haven’t read this bad ass book, the next few weeks is the time! The Backlist Book Club will be revealing their reviews once they get stuck in so you can join the party.
