Earlier this month, we welcomed Lettie Teague as our inaugural Early Mountain Wine Writer Fellow, spending a week immersed in Virginia wine country at the end of harvest.

From tasting fermentations in the cellar and walking the vineyards at Early Mountain, to visits with fellow Virginia producers, conversations with winemakers, and our Taste of Virginia Grand Tasting, the week offered an opportunity to explore the wines, people, and places shaping Virginia’s wine story.

We created this fellowship as an investment in the future of wine writing, grounded in the belief that meaningful storytelling begins with curiosity, firsthand experience, and access to the people behind the wines.
Lettie brought all of that curiosity, along with her signature wit, thoughtful questions, and wonderful perspective. We learned a great deal from her, too.

Our sincere thanks to Lettie, our fellow producers, and everyone who helped make this inaugural experience possible. We’re proud of this first chapter and excited for what’s ahead. by @earlymountain

Celebrate All Hallows’ Eve with an evening of pasta, wine, and a little culinary magic. This hands-on Edible Insight cooking class explores the craft of fresh pasta, from mixing and rolling dough to shaping it by hand, with a playful Halloween twist.

October 30 | 5:30 PM

Chef Tim will demonstrate the art of fresh pasta from start to finish, then invite guests to their own stations to roll, shape, and create pasta by hand. Discover the techniques behind the craft, experiment with different shapes, and see how ingredients like squid ink, roasted squash, herbs, and beet can transform the dough.

The evening continues with a family-style dinner featuring fresh pasta and autumn-inspired flavors, paired with Early Mountain wines.

Costumes are encouraged, with Chef Tim selecting the evening’s best costume and awarding an Early Mountain gift card to the winner.

This experience fills quickly. 🍷 taken in Tasting Room at Early Mountain Winery by @earlymountain

🍷 If You’re Looking for an Unforgettable Night Out…

There’s something about settling in with a beautiful Virginia view, a thoughtfully chosen wine, and a table full of dishes that makes you want to slow down and savor the evening.

We went all in at @earlymountain, starting with their Prix Fixe Menu with wine pairings, and it was such a fun way to experience the kitchen and the wines together.

We started with Bubbles & Fries, Early Mountain’s newest menu offering, and honestly, what better way to begin? Four sparkling wines, crisp fries and EMV dipping sauce. Of course, we added the Imperial Osetra Caviar & accompaniments because we couldn’t resist. 🥂

From there, we settled into the Prix Fixe Menu with wine pairings, which was a beautiful progression from start to finish. The “Fish & Chips” with Kaluga Caviar was paired with Early Mountain’s NV Brut “Champagne Cream,” followed by a Chilled Diver Scallop with Sauvignon Blanc 2025. The Pan-Seared Halibut came next with Petit Manseng 2023, and we finished with a silky Buttermilk Panna Cotta paired with Brut Sparkling NV.

Naturally, we weren’t quite ready to stop there. We added the Sweet Crab Salad, Tempura Fried Shishito Peppers, and Miso Glazed Pork Belly, each bringing something completely different to the table. And because there is always room for dessert when Upside Down Pecan Cake with Bourbon Caramel is involved, we ended the evening with one more indulgent bite.

Every course felt intentional. Every wine had a place. And somehow, despite ordering what felt like the entire menu, we still found ourselves wishing we had room for one more bite.

Unforgettable food. Great wine. A beautiful setting. And a table you won’t want to leave.

@earlymountain, we’ll be back. 🍷 by @earlymountain

A flight around the world, with fries. 🥂

A new offering of four traditional-method sparkling wines takes us from Spain and Champagne to California and our own Early Mountain Brut.

Served with crisp, golden fries, because few things belong together quite like bubbles and fries.

And if the afternoon calls for a little more indulgence, add an ounce of Merolin Imperial Osetra caviar.

To share or not to share? Entirely up to you. 🥂

Just two days before the release of his memoir, Main, Middle & Gay, Chef Patrick O’Connell joined NBC4’s Eun Yang for a fireside chat at Jean and Steve Case’s Early Mountain Vineyards in Madison, Virginia, where the kitchen is helmed by Inn alumnus Chef Tim Moore.

The evening traced the chapters of Chef Patrick’s remarkable life, from his unconventional beginnings to the unlikely birth of The Inn at Little Washington, giving guests an advance glimpse of the candid recollections, unexpected revelations, and colorful stories he has kept largely to himself—until now.

As the evening came to a close, a brief rain gave way to a spectacular rainbow stretching across the Virginia countryside. With the book’s release just two days away, we couldn’t help but take it as a sign of wonderful things to come.

Main, Middle & Gay makes its debut tomorrow, September 15. The official launch celebration will take place Wednesday evening at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, where Chef Patrick will be joined on stage by legendary food critic Tom Sietsema. The evening will feature exceptional Virginia wines from Barboursville Vineyards and King Family Vineyards, along with The Inn’s iconic truffled popcorn.

A handful of tickets remain for the occasion, and we would be delighted to have you join us. Each attendee will receive a signed copy of Main, Middle & Gay.

This weekend? We have a few ideas.

Stay late Friday with extended hours. Watch harvest unfold across the vines from the patio. Go deeper with an Elevation Tasting, or saddle up to the bar with one of our wine educators. And make the most of the last of summer’s bounty across Chef Tim’s menus.

In the Kitchen with Chef Tim Moore // Late Summer

Right now, the kitchen is overflowing with the best of the season. Ashland Farms, one of our nearby farm partners, grows specifically for our culinary program, bringing an incredible abundance of fresh produce into the kitchen throughout the season.

We caught up with Chef Tim Moore to talk about what’s coming in from the farm, what he’s excited about right now, and a few of his favorite dishes on the menu.

Come taste the season while it lasts! Reserve your table.🍑🍷🍅 by @earlymountain
