It’s not the closeness to your baby that is unsafe. The risk comes from not knowing how to co-sleep safely in a modern bed and possibly having your baby sleeping in an unsafe environment.

Unfortunately, hospitals and pediatricians are not giving parents resources on how to safely co-sleep and bed share even though most parents will end up with baby in their bed. Most of the pediatricians I have worked with over the years co-sleep with their children but they tell parents not to. This type of gatekeeping will continue to keep parents in fear of co-sleeping.

The best resource around for safe cosleeping and bed sharing are on the @cosleepy website.
Stay tuned for her book✨

For intuitive led sleep support backed by research and biology follow @goodnightmoonchild and join Cuddle Crew! A community for night nurturing mothers guided by an integrative sleep specialist. It’s like gathering around the fire of like minded mamas sharing ancient wisdom and speaking on all things sleep and the energetics of motherhood.

To learn about infant brain development and the research that we have on the importance of physical connection, nurturing and responding to our babies day and night read @drgreerkirshenbaum book, The Nurture Revolution. This is written by a neuroscientist and will help you see right through the BS advice new parents are given.

The first 1000 minutes with the dyad skin-to-skin are crucial for developing mother and newborn brains and for creating a healthy, secure attachment.

Cheek to cheek while swaddled isn’t enough. One “golden hour” is something, but isn’t enough.

Every person having a baby or working with mothers and babies need to know about this research. Our birth intervention rates is in this country are through the roof and we have to do better with supporting immediate and uninterrupted skin-to-skin. It matters.

The co-evolution of breastmilk and the infant gut microbiome suggests that the mother-breastmilk-infant feedback loop is fundamental for human survival. For the sake of the health of your baby, your family line and humanity , I don’t think we should F around and find out what happens if humans stop breastfeeding.

We are all alive today because your ancestors breastfed. #savebreastfeeding #savehumanity

I understand that pregnancy loss, miscarriage, abortion, is not taught, experienced or witnessed in this way. But want you to know that this is possible and I met the undisturbed truth when I experienced pregnancy loss. It was beautiful, peaceful, empowering experience and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. If I decided to go to the ER it would have been traumatic during such an open and vulnerable time, and there would have been literally nothing they would have done to help me. There was nothing wrong, we have done this for all of time. If we disconnect from our bodies, our spirits, our intuition, pregnancy loss or any type of birth can be traumatizing. It doesn’t have to be this way, it can feel like a primal ceremony.
I have been supporting woman through sovereign pregnancy loss and the messages, stories and reclamation that takes place in these spaces, through the bodies of mothers birthing life and death is the sacred work that will lead us back to love.

You hear about stressful and tension filled weaning stories where mothers had to leave the room or go on a trip because baby was screaming every night and mom wanted to wean, or felt like she had to wean. It doesn’t, and shouldn’t feel like this and it doesn’t have to be tension filled. IT IS POSSIBLE TO NIGHT WEAN IN CONNECTION.

It is when mom and child are in a deeply trusting relationship, where the child feels safe and mom and baby are in coherence that night weaning can feel like a change of season rather then tension and stress.

It is when mom is connected to their intuition and their baby that they know when the timing is right. I find it can be quite amazing and mind blowing how regulated and ready infants respond to night weaning when mom and baby have been in deep relationship with each-other from the beginning.

If you need one on one support to talk through your weaning journey or to explore what it can look like, I offer weaning in connection support. Link in bio.

Also, Britt from @goodnightmoonchild and I have a nurtured Nightweaning webinar that is available on her website. This has been really helpful for parents curious about Nightweaning and how to do it in a nurturing and connected way.

Breastfeeding the first days and weeks after birth doesn’t have to be perfect. When it doesn’t go as planned or how you envisioned it doesn’t mean there is an emergency that needs intervention.

It feels emergent to a new mom who has a baby who won’t latch immediately after birth but it is nervous system support that is needed more than anything.
Emotional processing through moms body and gentle bodywork with baby on moms body is foundational to breastfeeding. Getting mom back into her body. Warm food, skin to skin and bodywork.

This dyad doesn’t need gloved hands reaching in to squeeze, press, push or pathologize what’s wrong. Adding in pumps and bottles is going to add to the dysregulation. And the tongue tie or tension may be true AND the first way to address that is to support mom and baby into a regulated state.

They need gentle, loving support to get them back in bed together, Skin to skin, back to the place it all started. Stay there!

Come to The River. A community for mothers and those who hold, center and support them. A place for our stories and prayers spoken out loud. A place for us to re-member what it feels like to commune with the wild, the inner and outer seasons and to practice connecting with deep time again.

We will meet three times per month online and there will be seasonal in-person gatherings for those who can make it. You can sign up for just one month but I recommend committing to the season so you can tune into what shifts for you as we slow down and tune into the rythms of Spring.

This spring we will be learning about the medicinal wild weeds growing among us. The medicine the earth provides abundantly when we need it. How to identify and sustainably harvest wild weeds. And how to use them to nourish you and your family through tea, juices and weaving them into your food. We will also have an amazing guest speaker in April, read a book together and you will have access to a platform for recipe and resource sharing.

If you’re feeling called to deeper connection, to get in flow with the season and to slow down, come to The River. Let’s commune with the wild.

I watched the lunar eclipse last night and at 3/3, 3:33 in the morning. I had an image of moonbeams from the lunar eclipse shining down on mothers, all over the world, infusing a universal love and wisdom into your babies through your milk. There are biological, spiritual and energetic reasons that you have more milk in the middle of the night. ✨🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕✨

Your baby chose to come here, for you to nurture them and give them a soft landing no matter what is going on in the world. It’s a profound gift and responsibility. Motherhood is a magical calling and you have the cosmos supporting you both.

Lymphatic Care for the Breastfeeding Dyad. A masterclass for lactation consultants, doulas, midwives, nurses, doctors and caregivers of the mother-baby dyad. Feb 20th.

Let’s learn supportive ways to guide mothers to breast and lymphatic health while lactating and breastfeeding.

Antibiotics are being misused and overused for treating mastitis. This is largely due to providers and caregivers not having the education they need to support mothers experiencing breast and lymph challenges.

Let’s learn together! CEs available for nurses and midwives. Link in bio and on website!

It’s common for bottle-fed babies to be overfed. Starting around 6-8 weeks, babies who are getting breastmilk eat about 3-5 ounces per feeding whether they are 3 months old or 6 months old or older. The stomach size doesn’t expand but because milk is alive, it changes to meet the nutritional needs of baby.

This is a common story for babies in daycare or who are being bottle fed while mom is at work. Moms and other attuned caregivers often times are the only ones who know the needs of your baby and how they communicate those needs.

It’s common, especially in daycares, for babies to cue that they need their mom, or to be regulated by a loving adult, but for those cues are instead read as hunger so babies are overfed.

Moms are left feeling like they aren’t able to produce enough milk for their baby and start supplementing or starting solids early which can decrease milk and end a breastfeeding journey all together.

Make sure whoever is feeding your baby is educated on your individual baby’s cues, needs and the correct amount to feed them. Or, if you are privileged enough to stay home with them, do that.
