Young Lions raising the bar high! 💯

#EasternLions U13As recently scripted an impressive run at the inaugural Auckland Champions Cup 2026.

Our Lions played two friendlies and six competition games in New Zealand across five days, and remained unbeaten throughout – drawing just one game and winning the rest. 👏

Despite narrowly missing out on a final spot due to goal difference after the second round of group games, they emerged with some massive records:

➡️ Third highest goal count per game (3.67) among the teams in the 12th mixed (b 2014) category.

➡️ Third highest number of goals scored (22) among the teams in the category.

A special shoutout to our coach DJ and the parents who supported our squad across this exciting competition tour. Even the parents of our club technical director Sean Douglas were in attendance to cheer on for our young Lions on a matchday. 🔥

📢 #VPLM2 signing announcement 📢

Midfield dynamo Liam Wolstenholme joins the Lions’ senior men’s squad for Season 2027.

Our newest recruit arrives at The Den following an impressive campaign in 2026 with Eltham Redbacks, having helped them push for a #VPLM1 finals spot. He finished as runner-up in the Redbacks’ Best and Fairest award category last season.

An outstanding box-to-box midfielder, Liam effortlessly combines his relentless work rate, composure and reliability with his durability. He has not missed a competitive match in the past three-and-a-half seasons – a testament to his consistency.

With #EasternLions, Liam is now setting his sights high for the new season, eyeing a push for promotion.

Welcome to the club, Liam. We are delighted to have you as part of the #LionsPride ⚽ 🦁 by @eastern.lions

Sunshine, football and fun at Gardiners Creek Reserve ☀️ ✨ ⚽

#EasternLions hosted our inaugural intra-club U11 MC Dental Cup recently, proudly powered by our 2026 major partners @mcdentalmelbourne.

Shoutout to Sisi, Maryanne and Kelli from #MCDental, who were present on the competition weekend to support our players and the Lions’ family. 👏

Congratulations to Adrian’s team on winning the tournament. 🏅

🙏 A special ‘thank you’ to Joe (our MiniRoos’ Coordinator) and coaches Adrian, Darayus, Adam, Morgan, Ethan, and Garth. Your organisation, leadership, and commitment ensured our players had a positive, structured, and enjoyable football experience.

Lastly, thanks to everyone who contributed to making our first U11 MC Dental Cup a huge success. We could not have done it without our volunteers, partners and families. 👏

➡️ We now look forward to hosting the MC Dental Tournament in March-April 2027, welcoming development teams aged 9-12 from across the region. This exciting event will further strengthen our junior pathways and provide another opportunity for our young Lions to learn, compete, and grow.

Well done, boys! You’ve made the Lions’ family proud. 👏

Thanks to our coaches as well, for tutoring the boys to go up with aplomb against some of the best teams in the country. 🙏

Nine years, one club, player to coach, to technical director. Now @lomas187 is stepping out on his own.

@eastern.lions have appointed the long-time Boroondara Eagles figure as their new head coach for 2027.

It’s a significant move for a coach whose Australian football journey has been almost entirely intertwined with one club.
Lomas arrived at Boroondara in 2017.

He played there, he coached there, he eventually became the men’s first-team coach and club technical director.

Along the way, he continued building his coaching credentials and is currently an ‘A’ Diploma candidate. After nine years inside the Eagles system, a new challenge awaits.

Eastern Lions endured plenty of change in the dugout during 2026, but they’ve turned to an emerging coach with deep roots in Victorian football to lead them into a new season.
