That game was ugly, but my family kept it cute
💛♥️🏈

We’re longtime fans, so we know how to take a loss and bring a poncho. But a TIE?! Honey, that means EVERYBODY lost. Especially when we were up TWO SCORES going into the 4th quarter. 😭

Dear Dan Quinn, in the words of A Tribe Called Quest… 🎶 “Can I kick it?” YES, YOU CAN!!!!

At least we looked good losing together. taken in Northwest Stadium by @eboni_roset

🚨 ERIC’S LAW IS OFFICIALLY LAW! 🦋

This week we celebrate a powerful step toward making unseen disabilities seen in the District of Columbia.

I’m incredibly proud that the Eric’s Law resolution I brought before the @dcsboe was unanimously passed in May, helping lay the groundwork for this legislation.

Thank you to Councilmembers @cmzparker5 and @cmlewisgeorgew4 for introducing Eric’s Law and to Councilmember @cmcharlesallen for being a champion as this legislation moved through committee and toward final passage.

And most importantly, thank you @eric_grantham for your vision 🙏🏾

This is what advocacy looks like: listening to families, bringing their experiences to the table, building support, and turning an idea into lasting policy.

Eric’s Law will help make sure that people with hidden and non-apparent disabilities have a way to communicate their needs and receive understanding when they need it most.

One more step toward a DC where we see people for who they are and make space for everyone.

So y’all know I love a good field trip and this one to the @eascarpenters Training Facility did NOT disappoint. 🦺🔨

We got into the nuts and bolts of carpentry careers, apprenticeship pathways, and the life changing skills our students need to build a future and literally build projects like RFK.

Career pathways aren’t just about getting a job. They’re about building skills, confidence, and economic opportunity.

Let’s make sure DC students can see themselves in every pathway and have a real path to get there. 🛠️ taken in Carpenters Local 197 by @eboni_roset

A diploma should prepare you for LIFE, not just graduation day. At our September meeting, we took a big step toward making that a reality. 🎓

I’m especially proud that our new high school graduation requirements recognize the things students need to thrive after high school, including:

💰 Financial literacy — because every young person should understand money before they enter adulthood.

🛠️ Career & Technical Education — recognizing the value of what we used to call vocational education and expanding pathways to good careers.

🌎 Language access — making sure multilingual students have opportunities to build on the languages they already know.

🤝🏾 Community service — including opportunities for students to serve their communities while getting paid for their work.

This is about giving students more pathways, more choices, and more ways to demonstrate what they know and can do.

I’m proud of this vote and grateful to have chaired the Taskforce alongside @henderson4ward5 including @osse.dc, the students, educators, families, advocates, employers, labor leaders, and colleagues who helped push this work forward.

DC students deserve a diploma that prepares them for whatever comes next. 💛

A peek at what investing in our kids looks like. 🏈📚❤️

Yesterday in #Ward7, we celebrated the launch of the @commanders Youth Academy Junior Academy Pilot @kippdcschools in Capitol View with @cityschoolscollaborative bringing together academics, athletics, mentorship, and opportunity for our young people.

And the energy was EVERYTHING! From students running plays on their newly refurbished field to painting and connecting with Commanders rookies, the day was about more than football. It was about making sure our children have access to experiences, relationships, and resources that help them see what’s possible.

As a proud Ward 7 representative, I’m excited to see this investment in our community — and especially excited about what it can mean as this pilot grows and reaches even more DC students.

When we invest in our children, we invest in the future of our entire city. 💫

Thank you to the Washington Commanders Foundation, KIPP DC, the Harris family, the players, educators, and everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

Ward 7 is ready. Our kids are ready. #RaiseHail taken in KIPP DC Smilow Campus by @eboni_roset

“One finger pointing the blame don’t make no impact. But you ball up all them fingers into a fist, and you can strike a mighty blow. Now, this family got to be that fist.” -Big Momma, Soul Food 💛💜

Our #Ward7 JLG childcare & education group chose to stay together because we wanted to hear from everyone in the room: teachers, students, parents, grandparents, school leaders, childcare providers, and policymakers. Ward 7 knows when we’re talking about the future of our children, every voice matters.

Shoutout to my fellow facilitators @tlbrown1221 @christinamichellejones and @kpindmv . A super special shoutout to the @mayaschools students who shared why they feel prepared for the future and how their school has supported them along the way. Hearing directly from our young people is a reminder of why this work matters.

Big Mama said it best in Soul Food: one finger can point, but when you ball those fingers into a fist, you can strike a mighty blow.

Our Ward 7 family is that fist. Together, we’re fighting for the future our children deserve.

Thank you, @janeese4dc for listening and for bringing people together. Looking forward to the journey ahead. ✊🏾

“There’s nothing like a good macaroni and cheese.” — Patti LaBelle 😋 🧀

I’m a egg and milk kinda girl.

No roux. No culinary degree. Just eggs, milk, cheese, seasoning and a prayer. 🙏🏾

I really entered the @dcstatefair Mac & Cheese Competition just to do it for the plot…

…and LEFT WITH 2ND PLACE.

My mac and cheese is officially award winning 🏆

Now I gotta figure out how I’m supposed to top this next year. taken in In The City, Washington,DC by @eboni_roset

A quick Labor Day throwback to a 2022 WTU Rally, one of many, fighting for a fair contract. ✊🏾

Labor Day may mean a long weekend for many of us, but it exists because workers organized, fought, and demanded better.

The labor movement gave us the 8-hour workday, weekends, overtime protections, safer workplaces, the right to organize, and so much more.

Here’s the thing: labor rights aren’t something we inherit. They’re something we have to protect and continue to fight for.

I’ve stood with DC educators because when we fight for teachers, we’re also fighting for our students, our schools, and the future of public education.

The future of labor must be about more than protecting what we’ve won. It must be about building an economy where every worker can afford to live, raise a family, care for themselves, and retire with dignity.

So this Labor Day, I’m honoring the workers who fought before us, standing with workers fighting today, and ready to keep fighting for what comes next.

Because progress has never been given. It has been organized for.

Happy Labor Day. ✊🏾💛 taken in Freedom Plaza by @eboni_roset

Our children deserve better. Period. 🚧

This is not the first time #Ward7 students have been asked to accept less than what they deserve. It is not the first time our communities have had to push, question, advocate, and demand that the District deliver on its promises.

But we need to make it the last time.

School started August 24th. Our children should have walked into a school that was safe, finished, clean, and ready to welcome them. Construction should not still be happening around students, educators, and families after the first week of school.

I will continue to ask the hard questions and hold our agencies accountable because this is bigger than one building. All of our children deserve safe, high-quality schools. Ward 7 deserves the best.

We should not have to fight for the basics. We should not have to accept less.

Our kids deserve better. We owe it to them to make sure they get it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. This is not good enough for our kids or any kids. taken in Kenilworth Elementary by @eboni_roset

DEFEND DC 🌹

Defend is both a noun and a verb. It is a commitment to protect what is ours and an action we take together.

Proud to stand with organizations and individuals across DC who are coming together to Defend DC: to defend our autonomy, our democracy, and our right to full citizenship.

I took a break from back to school visits yesterday on #DC’s first day back because this matters for our all of us: our children, family, and communities.

This work is about more than a moment. It is about protecting DC’s right to govern ourselves and ensuring that Washingtonians have the same voice, rights, and representation as every other American.

Proud to be in this fight with so many committed Washingtonians and allies.

Now and until we win. ✊🏾 taken in Freedom Plaza by @eboni_roset
