💚 You Belong Here. Everyone deserves access to fresh food, green space, and community. At Edgewood Community Farm, we’re committed to making the farm accessible to our community, especially as we work to help address food insecurity.

Here are a few free and low-cost ways to connect with the farm:

🥕 Open Harvest Policy: Vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and flowers growing in the main farm up the stairs are available for free. During the summer, we’ll often have produce in the right-hand farm fridge under the shelter. (Please don’t harvest from the raised beds on the curb. Those are individually managed plots.)

🛍️ @redeliciousdc Grocery Distribution on Sundays: Free groceries available to neighbors each Sunday while supplies last from 3:30-5 p.m. Prepared meals, bread, and fresh produce are all regularly available.

🌱 Reduced Workshop Rates: We offer lower-cost spots for many of our workshops so more people can join in. If cost is a barrier and you’d like to explore a reduced or free rate for a workshop or event, please reach out to nora@ecfarm.org.

☀️ A Place to Relax: The farm is open for individuals and small groups as a quiet, welcoming space to sit, breathe, and spend time outdoors from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Just check our calendar for events and workshops. (If you’re hosting an event for more than six people, consider booking the farm via the link in our bio.)

Sometimes nature just does it better 🍄

Our first year on the farm, we tried growing chicken of the woods. It did not go well. This mushroom is seriously finicky and pretty much refuses to be grown on purpose.

Then a couple days ago we walked past one of our logs and there it was. A giant flush of chicken of the woods, popped up all on its own with zero help from us. Classic.

If you've never had it, chicken of the woods is savory, meaty, and actually tastes a lot like chicken. It's super hard to cultivate and so fun to find in the wild, so this one felt like a gift.

And we're passing that gift along! Come out to our volunteer day tomorrow Sunday October 18 from 11 to 2 and take some home, plus veggies, flowers, and a few other mushrooms. We'll eat together at the end too.

💚🍄☘️ We were thrilled to have two special groups on the farm last week! @cityblossoms joined us to tour the farm, including the always popular mushroom area, and learn about seed saving. And @dcecowomen joined us for a pop-up volunteer evening where we continued the expansion of our lawn using cardboard, compost, and clover seeds. We so appreciated getting to meet folks from both organizations and talk about what the farm is up to. Thanks to everyone who joined us last week and spent time with us, whether to explore or volunteer! by @ecfarmdc

🫖 Our last tea workshop of the year is coming up on Sunday! You’ll pick fresh herbs to dry at home and then create your own custom blends from dried herbs picked from the farm earlier this year. Join us for a hands-on mushroom workshop where we’ll learn how mushrooms grow, explore simple at-home growing systems, and talk substrates, growing conditions, and beginner-friendly varieties.
Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and inoculate a substrate together! Everyone will head home with a starter kit to keep growing.
Perfect for gardeners, food lovers, fungi fans, and curious beginners. 🍄

Thanks to everyone who came out for a rainy volunteer day! A little rain didn't stop us. We worked on the greenhouse, harvested peppers, uppotted seedlings, saved some pepper plants to overwinter, and more! by @ecfarmdc

Rain or shine, we're out here! Our regular volunteer day is still on today from 11am to 2pm, so grab your boots and a rain jacket and come help us build the greenhouse. We'll feed everyone once we wrap up. There's something kind of great about getting your hands dirty on a stormy day, so come out and enjoy it with us. 🌧️🌱 by @ecfarmdc
