Around 3,000 years ago in present-day Iran, ancient engineers created an extraordinary invention: the Qanat. This underground system transported water over long distances in desert areas, crucial for supplying villages and fields. Rows of openings acted as air vents, allowing workers to breathe while manually digging tunnels that stretched for kilometers.
