Tioman Island is a hidden gem, just off the east coast of mainland Malaysia.

While inhabited, an extraordinary 90% of it remains rainforest. Just a step away from the small coastal villages, the interior quickly gives way to dense tropical jungle: home to an astonishing variety of plants, fungi, insects, reptiles, and other wildlife, with a number of endemic species that you literally cannot find anywhere else on Earth.

Some of it is beautiful. Some of it is bizarre. Some of it appears to have been designed specifically to bite you, poison you, smell like a corpse, or quietly decompose the forest floor.

From flying lizards and spectacular fungi, to an assortment of things with far too many legs, and the freakish Rafflesia - a parasitic plant with no true leaves, stems, or roots, which produces an enormous flower smelling of rotting flesh that blooms for only a few days.

It is a reminder that a rainforest isn't just a lot of trees. It's an entire, extraordinarily complicated world stacked on top of itself.

And on Tioman, there's rather a lot of it.
