What if you could finish your master's in economics or data scinece in just one extra year?

Our Accelerated Master's info session is next week, and it's your chance to find out how it works, how it fits into your degree plan, and what it could mean for your career.

Students tell us the biggest draws are the extra year (just one), better job prospects and salary potential, and stronger data and research skills.

The info session will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30 PM in NCB 130B. #LinkinBio to register.

Big congrats to Jadrian Wooten, the 2026 Co-Recipient of the Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award from the Southern Economic Association.

If you've taken Principles of Micro, Sports Economics, Urban Economics, or Economics of Crime with him, you already know why. This award honors educators who make economics click and find new ways to connect it to the world around us.

He'll be formally recognized at the SEA annual meetings in Houston next month.

So proud of you, Dr. Wooten! by @econvt

Dr. Wooten took the stage at the @richmondfed's Exploring Economics Conference to share his own path into economics and advice for undergrads navigating theirs.

Some of our own VT Econ students made the trip to Richmond to be in the room for it. That's the kind of initiative that makes us so proud to be part of this department. taken in Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond by @econvt

๐ŸŽ“ Dr. Ross Spoon is officially in the building!

Ross's dissertation uses laboratory experiments to study what drives asset market instability, from the borrowing constraints that fuel bubbles and short squeezes to the physiological stress responses that separate high earners from low earners when markets turn. He also developed and released an open-source platform that makes it easier for other researchers to run these kinds of experiments.

Brilliant work, Ross. We're proud of you! by @econvt

Dr. Bandyopadhyay has entered the chat!

Priya defended her dissertation this week, and this fall she's heading to the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics as an instructor.

Her research explores how people and institutions respond to risk and uncertainty, and what that means for how money moves through the economy.

We're so proud of everything you've accomplished, Priya! by @econvt

Adilynn Walker is one of a kind, and our Chair's Excellence Award couldn't go to a more deserving Hokie.

Adilynn graduates with her Economics degree and minors in Political Science and Naval Leadership. In Fall 2025, she served as Regimental Commander for the @vtcorpsofcadets, the highest-ranking cadet in the Corps. She has commissioned into the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer in training.

Her favorite part of the economics program was using what she learned in the classroom as a lens to understand human behavior and the world around her. Her favorite course was American Economic History with Dr. Miller.

She's a brilliant student and an exceptional leader. We're so proud of you, Adilynn. Thank you for your service! by @econvt

The Chair's Excellence Awards go to students who gave everything to this program, and then some.

Pascale Kuo graduated Fall 2025 with her Economics degree and a minor in Data & Decisions. For the past few months, she has been working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. While at VT she was Economics Club President, a College of Science Ambassador, an undergraduate researcher, and a peer mentor. Her favorite experience? Competing at the 2025 Econ Games in Cincinnati. Her favorite course? Economics of Crime with Dr. Wooten.

This award is one of our highest departmental honors, and she earned every bit of it. So proud of you, Pascale! by @econvt

Nick Fleischman graduated in just three years, but he isn't quite ready to call it quits. Nick recently wrapped up his Economics degree with a MEDS option ahead of schedule, but he also got a head start on our Accelerated MA program. This summer he's interning at the @richmondfed before he heads back to Blacksburg for one more year to finish up his master's.

Before all of that, he found time to be an officer in @economicsclubvt, an intern with @hokiesports,an Economics Fellow, a peer mentor for FYE, and even squeezed in a study abroad trip with @vteconabroad. He also excelled in his classes. His favorite? Game Theory with Dr. Bahel.

Some people make the most of four years. Nick made the most of three, and then some. We're so proud of you! by @econvt
