Fieldwork Friday! πŸ’œπŸ’›
This week, we're highlighting Marisa Suedbeck and her summer internship experience at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital!
Throughout the summer, Marisa gained experience across both acute care and outpatient rehabilitation settings, working with adult and pediatric populations. Her clinical experiences included evaluating and treating individuals with speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language delays, stuttering, aphasia, cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and dysphagia.
This diverse placement allowed Marisa to develop and refine a wide range of clinical skills while collaborating with patients, families, and healthcare professionals across settings.
When reflecting on her internship, Marisa shared that her favorite aspects were the schedule layout, learning from her supervisor, collaborating with the healthcare team, and having opportunities to strengthen a broad range of clinical competencies. The experience provided valuable insight into the many roles speech-language pathologists play across the continuum of care.
Thank you, Marisa, for representing ECU CSDI so well during your summer internship! We are proud of all you accomplished and look forward to seeing your continued growth as a future speech-language pathologist. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ’œπŸ’›

Welcome Wednesday! πŸ’œπŸ’›

We are so excited to WELCOME our 1st year cohort to the M.S. program! Meet first-year student, Jordan Cline.
Jordan is from China Grove, NC and earned her undergraduate degree right here at ECU. During her time as an undergraduate student, Jordan took advantage of opportunities that sparked her passion for serving individuals with communication differences across the lifespan.
Jordan shared that she served as a dance instructor and executive board member for a student-led organization that provides dance classes for children with different abilities. She also volunteered in the Head and Neck Cancer Clinic within ECU's on-campus clinic. These experiences provided valuable exposure to a wide range of communication disorders and strengthened her desire to pursue a career in speech-language pathology.
Jordan chose ECU for its diverse clinical experiences, supportive faculty and staff, and unique opportunities for professional growth. She is excited to continue building her knowledge and skills as she works toward becoming an outstanding clinician.
We're thrilled that Jordan chose to continue her journey with us and become part of our graduate cohort!πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ’œπŸ’›

Fieldwork Friday! πŸ’œπŸ’›

This week, we're highlighting Abby Mountz and her summer internship experience at ECU Health Medical Center!
During her internship in an acute care setting, Abby worked with adult patients experiencing a variety of communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. This experience provided valuable opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in a fast-paced medical environment while supporting patients through critical stages of recovery.
When reflecting on her internship, Abby shared that her favorite part was seeing patients make meaningful improvements in dysphagia, cognition, and language as their neurological, cardiac, or respiratory status improved. She found it especially rewarding to witness how medical recovery can positively impact communication and swallowing, helping patients regain important functional abilities and move closer to returning to their daily lives.
Experiences like Abby's play an essential role in preparing future speech-language pathologists to provide evidence-based, compassionate care across medical settings.
Thank you, Abby, for representing ECU CSDI so well throughout your summer internship! We are proud of all you accomplished and look forward to seeing your continued growth as a future clinician. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ’œπŸ’›
