@novanthealth innovative design team and EDA Surf Art have transformed orthopedic wing with our unique 3D-Water art.
Recognizing the anxiety often felt in healthcare settings, we aimed to create a serene atmosphere. There’s nothing like water to soothe the soul. Our 3D-Water art, known for its calming effect, was the perfect choice for this space. We designed eight large panels, each showcasing the tranquil beauty of water in 3D form. Each panel, minimal yet impactful, captures the essence of water, making viewers feel as if they’re right by the sea. It’s a gentle reminder of the oceans healing power, especially in a place dedicated to health and recovery. We’re honored to have played a part in uplifting this crucial space with our art. A huge thank you to @novanthealth for trusting us with this significant project.

Seven years ago, our family went from four to five.

Today, Augustus officially went from six to seven and somehow manages to be one of the big kids and my baby at the exact same time. He keeps the magic alive, holds his own with Nealie and Dax, and has successfully claimed a permanent spot beside me in the kitchen.

He plans to be a firefighter like his daddy, but for now he is busy running the rest of us.

Happy birthday to our sweet, sensitive boy and champion in the making. Life without you would be quieter, cleaner, and nowhere near as good. We love you, Augustus. taken in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina by @edasurf

Happy Birthday Dax! Our beach baby from the very beginning. Born August 25th and at the beach two days later. Somehow, that feels like it told us exactly who you were going to be.

Adventurous, determined, creative, funny and independent. You notice the little things (and forget plenty of others), and most of all, you love hard. You show up for others quietly, consistently and with your whole heart. Keep chasing waves, loving your people hard and being exactly who you are.

Today, Nealie and Dax Ruttkay competed in the @uslifesaving 2026 Jr National Championships for @wbor_comp and @wb_oceanrescue . They engaged in ocean competition and tried their best. Both did the 2K beach run (Nealie placed 3rd in the U19!) — Nealie also did the Run-Swim-Run and Dax did the Surf Swim. It was incredible to watch these youth achieve surf life-saving glory on the beach and in the ocean today. A very special thank you to all the volunteers and officials who took the time to make it happen for these kids, spreading the positive lifestyle that is ocean safety and sport!! In 2019, Dr. Braza hired EDA to bring blue water from the Banzai Pipeline to his new practice. Bluewater Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center and seven years later he’s clearing me. Six months ago, I walked back into a classroom for the first time in more than twenty years. I knew exactly what I was signing up for. I’ve had severe dyslexia and a diagnosed learning disability since first grade, and although I later earned a degree in Special Education from UNC Wilmington with a focus on learning disabilities, I knew EMT school and Firefighter I & II would challenge me academically every day. To get through it, I returned to the same strategies that helped me through college: audio textbooks, note cards, sitting in the front of the classroom, paying attention, and putting in the time. There were failed tests, retaken tests, and plenty of long nights. This time, AI became another study tool. Photographing slides, uploading PDFs, having material read back to me, and quizzing myself made a tremendous difference. For people who learn differently, it’s an incredible resource. While I was in class, training, or studying, my wife carried the weight at home—working full time while getting three kids to school, practices, homework, and everything else that keeps a family moving. We knew this season would require sacrifice, and it did. Along the way, I met outstanding instructors, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and classmates who taught me far more than what was written in the textbooks. What stood out most was the passion. They genuinely cared about the craft, the community, and the people around them. As this chapter closes, I can definitely feel the cumulative weight of the last six months. It’ll take a little time to decompress, but I’m grateful I took the chance. Some goals are still reached the old fashion way… one day and one step at a time. taken in CFCC North Campus by @edasurf

June has been filled with so many milestones in our family, and we’re wrapping it up with Sean’s firefighter graduation.

Augustus graduated kindergarten, breaking out of his shell more every day. He’s incredibly curious, always asking why and has developed such a love for reading. Dax graduated 5th grade, full of energy and heart, always keeping life interesting. Nealie graduated 8th grade, an old soul and a true goal getter, always pushing herself and rising to every challenge. And after months of hard work and dedication, Sean officially achieved his dream of becoming a firefighter.

Each of them has worked in their own way, at their own pace, and it’s been incredible to watch. These moments aren’t just about the milestones themselves, but about who they are becoming along the way.

The past six months have been hard—like really hard—but today we celebrate. None of this would have been possible without the love and support from our families, friends, my work family for allowing flexibility when we needed it most, and WB Fire and Ocean Rescue.

So much to celebrate! Looking forward to seeing what this next chapter holds. ❤️ by @edasurf
