What's it like finding the locations for one of this year's biggest period films?

We spoke to Location Manager Eddy Pearce (@eddypearce), who scouted the breathtaking locations featured in Sense and Sensibility (2026) - supported by Filming in England and our Film Office partners.

This is a stunningly beautiful film - one that I feel particularly lucky to have been involved with, and proud to have put heart and soul into.

Out in UK cinemas now and, although I’m not naturally drawn to period dramas, this definitely comes with a recommendation from me! I’ve thought about the film a lot since seeing it a couple of weeks ago and the word that keeps coming back is a simple one - BEAUTIFUL.

If you’ve seen it I’d love to know what you thought.

I was involved from the very earliest days of production. Director Georgia Oakley (a total joy to work with!) described a vision for the film which stayed so strong, and was enhanced further by an amazing team - especially the stunningly moody cinematography from Arnaud Potier @losbosques, inspired production design from fran_mottola, and gorgeous costumes from @graceesnell.

Georgia's location brief was beautifully clear, but certainly not restrictive. We had both the time and opportunity to dig really deep with scouting, concentrating initially on the two key house locations, Norland and Barton Cottage, both of which ended up being shot in the South West. It isn’t unusual to have directors asking for locations which haven’t been shot before, but when that location is a sizeable Georgian historic house it is pretty rare to be able to deliver. This time it worked.

Our grand “Norland” was Kingston Russell House - stunning and so rich with lived-in textures. Never before shot, and, even better, only a few miles from my home. Our more lowly "Barton Cottage” was much more remote, but a touch better known, having been used by Spielberg in War Horse.

Scouting has taken me all round the world and there is such privilege in that, but exploring the location gems which lie closer to my home here in the South West will always feel special, especially when they are found not by sitting at a laptop, but by poring over maps, getting my car on the road, feet on the ground, and making the most of local contacts. #oldskool #keepingitreal 😉

If you want a scout who will think outside the box, photograph locations creatively, and bring 30 years of experience along too, please give me a call! #locationscouting taken in Dorset, UK by @eddypearce

SO CLOSE! JUST ONE DAY TO GO TO HELP SAVE THIS STUNNING BUILDING AND HUB OF CREATIVITY.

Do you have £5 spare? Or even £5k spare? Do you love the arts? Beautiful buildings? Or just Bridport?

If so please join the wonderful folk in these portraits who have already given generously to help get an amazing fundraiser over the line.

These prints (oh yes - how nice is it to hold a real print in your hands?!!) are from a portrait session that I shot recently in the stunning @lyrictheatrebridport to help support their campaign to raise vital funds to repair their roof. The building alone is a unique gem, but the real gold lies in everyone who uses it, and all the creativity and joy that comes from them.

There’s a link in my bio to the Crowdfunder - if you can afford even just a fiver… please please make a donation. They have raised over £93k already but need a final push to help reach the £100k target that secures their future. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Huge thanks to Mark @format_print_studio for the gorgeous prints. taken in The Lyric Theatre by @eddypearce

This Sunday - 12th July - local photographer Eddy Pearce @eddypearce will be offering a photo portrait session in The Lyric as a thanks to anyone who makes a donation to our Under This Roof Crowdfunder campaign (link in bio!).
In recent years Eddy has used The Lyric as the backdrop to several beautiful portraits of local people including a very special photo of our team as we emerged from lockdown in 2020. He seems to have the knack of nailing beautiful and powerful portraits in our equally beautiful space.
Yes, we know… you may be far too modest to have your own portrait hanging on your wall, but there’s usually someone out there who would just LOVE that. A perfect gift for a parent, grandparent, lover, your greatest fan, or just for a Lyric Lover! Eddy promises to do his best to make even the most nervous of sitters feel at ease.
The photos will also be a great record of some of our supporters, and we hope that you will share them with pride to help to spread the word about our Crowdfunder as it moves into its final stage.
The sessions on Sunday will be open from 11am until 3pm and will run on a first come first served basis. You are very welcome to bring friends, family, dogs, props, or any other items close to your heart.
We’d like to suggest a minimum donation of £20. In return you will receive an emailed copy of at least one portrait.
If your donation is £40 / £60 or more, you will also receive an A4 / A3 print of one portrait on beautiful Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Pearl paper. *
If your donation is £60 or more, you will also receive an A3 print of one portrait on beautiful Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Pearl paper. *
* Prints to be available for local collection from Monday 20th July. Postage by additional arrangement.

Dawn over the Sound of Mull - one of a series of photos taken from MV Lord of the Isles as we headed out to the Hebrides last week.

Sadly now heading the other way on our way home after an amazing few days with friends on Coll - every visit leaves us formulating plans / dreams of how we might make a life there work.
