Felicidades a l@s seleccionad@s!

I’m very happy and proud to share that my typeface, Queenie, designed during the Type West postgraduate program, was selected for the 10th edition of the Latin American Typography Biennial, Tipos Latinos 2026. Only 75 projects were selected out of 768 from across Latin America.

It feels incredible, and I’m honored to be part of Tipos Latinos for the first time alongside such talented designers. I’m very grateful to everyone who supported me with their feedback throughout the process; however, it wouldn’t have been the same without Ro Hernández and Sahar Afshar. Thank you!!

Congratulations to everyone selected! Achievements like this are a great motivation to keep developing what I love, letterforms.

Edgar Capula, Queenie type specimen, Mexico City, 2025

Queenie is a playful display type family and variable font inspired by the vibrant spirit of the psychedelic era, its posters and lettering, and my love for the music of the 60s and 70s, The Beatles in particular.

Join us next month for an in-person open house where you, too, can learn how to make your own custom typefaces like Queenie.

Queenie is a playful variable display typeface inspired by the vibrant energy of psychedelic graphics from the 1960s, reimagined through a contemporary lens. Rhythmic strokes, reverse contrast, and fluid curves give the family a warm and expressive personality, while subtly slanted stems recall the movement and groove of vintage posters and vinyl culture. In Queenie, almost nothing stands still — there are virtually no straight lines anywhere in the design.

The family includes 9 weights from Thin to Heavy, plus a variable font, offering a wide expressive range for dynamic typography. With more than 500 glyphs, Queenie comes packed with stylistic alternates, ligatures, multiple numeral sets, symbols, dingbats, and OpenType features.
Created to shine in large formats and expressive compositions, Queenie feels equally at home in record covers, branding systems, editorial layouts, packaging, posters, and logos. The intermediate weights also perform beautifully in short texts, bringing personality and rhythm without sacrificing readability.
Part lettering, part music, part movement — Queenie invites designers to turn up the volume and embrace the curve.
