CAP UCLA’s Executive and Artistic Director Edgar Miramontes and Artist Edgar Arceneaux meet up to talk all things ‘Place is the Space,' coming to The Nimoy on Aug 29.

Jazz improv and theatrical storytelling converge in "Place is the Space," a multimedia, immersive performance happening at the UCLA Nimoy Theater this Saturday at 1PM. 🎭🎷✨

Inspired by Sun Ra’s philosophy and his film "Space Is the Place," artist Edgar Arceneaux @edgar_three & actor Frank Lawson @thefranklawson lead a concert and an experiential ritual where the audience helps collectively shape the shape into place.

Edgar Arceneaux' 1999 begonnene Installation "Drawings of Removal" erinnert auf den ersten Blick an eine Atelier-Situation: Überlappende, großformatige Zeichnungsblätter, von denen einige ausgeschnitten und radiert sind, Stücke, die wieder neu zusammengesetzt wurden; Arbeitsutensilien, Zeitungsartikel und weitere Gegenstände. Inhaltlich basiert die Arbeit auf seinen persönlichen Besuchen in der Heimatstadt seines Vaters in Beaumont (Texas), der mittlerweile verstorben ist. Die Frage des Sich-gewahr-Werdens, Erinnerns, Aufzeichnens, aber auch der Beschäftigung mit Herkunft spielen hierbei eine Rolle. Angelegt als Work-In-Progress entwickelt sich die Installation durch die Bearbeitung des Künstlers stetig weiter.

Am kommenden Wochenende wird @edgar_three (*1972 in Los Angeles, CA) seine vor zwei Jahrzehnten begonnene Arbeit erstmals fortsetzen. Besucher*innen haben am Sa, 11. und So, 12. 7. 2026 die einmalige Gelegenheit, die Erweiterung der Installation live im Marta mitzuverfolgen (im Eintrittspreis enthalten).
