Artist Edgar Arceneaux discusses his work Togetherness (2026), currently on view at Des Artistes as part of Group Dynamic. In his recent work, Arceneaux experiments with mirrors, chemically stripping their reflective surfaces and transferring them onto canvas. The resulting compositions are fragmented, layered, and reflective, inviting viewers to reconsider how we see ourselves and the world around us.

#nexusblackartweek ๐Ÿ–ค Today, we spent some time at the Museum of the African Diaspora to focus on the Dewey Crumpler show, and at the 419 venue to see the fabulous group show, Art eXodus: From North to South, The Coast curated by gallerist Jac Forbes. The Crumpler retrospective is deep, covering decades of work. I love the container series - the small piece we have in our collection shares this regular motif. Over at 419, I was obsessed by David Huffmanโ€™s small-scale Traumanaut pieces. Spare, but immensely powerful.

Thereโ€™s always something happening at the Hammer. โœจ The last summer performance of the year, Place is the Space, was an immersive experience combining jazz improvisation, theatrical storytelling, and multimedia design inspired by Sun Ra's philosophy. Edgar Arceneaux @edgar_three and Frank Lawson @thefranklawson led audiences on a cosmic jam session and procession from CAP UCLA @cap_ucla to the Hammer courtyard. And weโ€™re just getting started. ๐Ÿ‘€ Come for the art, concerts, performances, screenings, tours, and conversationsโ€”and bring your friends and family along for the ride. Stay locked into our feeds and subscribe to our newsletter to learn what's happening! ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ And remember, admission to the Hammer is always FREE! See you this Fall! ๐Ÿ
