About last night …

Words alone cannot express how deeply humbled and grateful I am to share the stage and this incredible moment with the one and only, incomparable @indiaarie!! 🙌🏾 To be trusted with the sonic architecture for a show of this magnitude is a blessing I do not take lightly.

That said, I want my fellow MDs and gigging musicians to look closely at what I took this solo on …

It wasn’t a $4,000, 40-pound analog synthesizer provided by a backline company … It was a $200 midi controller and iPad.

There is a myth in this industry that mobile devices sound ‘thin’ or ‘digital’ and can’t hold up on an arena stage. Check the tone in this video. This is what pure execution sounds like when you stop relying heavy gear you were TOLD you needed, and learn to build your own a bulletproof SYSTEM.

While hanging at the gym supporting one of our friends, I had to ask two of the heaviest touring musicians on the road right now, @leonturner88 and @westbyrd, a simple question:

With all the new keyboards coming out ... what does the iPad need to keep up?

The answer? “A system update.”

Like West said, buying some of these boards for yourself gets way too expensive … Unless you are strictly playing backline gear provided by a production company, chasing every new keyboard is a trap …

Leon is right … Most of the new keyboards dropping today are digital anyway, not analog. You are LITERALLY getting the exact same sound quality out of an iPad system, but you aren’t draining your bank account to do it.

It’s a system thing. You can either keep spending money on professional keyboards, or you can learn the system of what we believe is the future …

Hey …

Hope y’all have your tickets already for this sold-out show … I promise the energy is already amazing, and the vocals of @ametriadock, @mayahdyson and @kayladock1 are incredible!!

Yes, there is a very awesome, but very heavy, authentic suitcase Rhodes in the show, to add vintage vibes and aesthetics to the stage.

But guess what isn’t there? A bunch of expensive, heavy workstations.

When you get the call for a major event, MDs don’t care how much your keyboard costs. They care if your rig is bulletproof. You can’t afford a crash, and you can’t blame your MIDI routing. Your reputation is entirely on the line, and I’m humbled to have been trusted by the incomparable @kharicabralsimmons to deliver all the nuances necessary for this historic music celebration. Quick update for everybody who has been asking about the Mobile Musician Accelerator cohort that was supposed to start this Monday.

I am officially pushing the start date to Monday, March 30th.

I just got the call to run keys for a major artist, and rehearsals start this Monday.

I am taking the exact 5-pound iPad rig that I am teaching in this cohort, and I’m walking into a major industry rehearsal with it. I am not teaching you theory; I am teaching you the exact bulletproof architecture I use to book these gigs.

Most gigging musicians are still one credit card payment away from realizing a new $4,000 workstation isn’t going to fix their sound or their setup.

Hey Family,

See those 4 Korg Kronos keyboards? The brain running my main 88-key setup for this entire rig was a 2018 iPad Pro.

This was our Las Vegas residency in 2019. Sold-out room. 2.5-hour show every night.

Zero latency … Zero polyphony glitches …

Nothing sounding thin, especially using AUM. No crashes mid-set.

The #1 reason gigging pros are terrified to use an iPad live is because they think it isn’t stable. But stability doesn’t come from buying the newest iPad; it comes from knowing how to architect the system.
