Introducing The Wendy, a new apartment building in Arlington, Virginia. Our amenity spaces at @livethewendy are built on a narrow but refined palette, a pared down high contrast approach alternating between light and airy and dramatically dark areas. Hammered limestone thresholds, end grain oak block wood base, and marble floors grant a solidity to the surroundings filled out by broad custom seating areas, culminating in a sunset-facing penthouse club room in the building’s faceted prow. taken in The Wendy by @edit_at_streetsense_

Introducing Claudine, an ambitious modern New England fine dining retreat in downtown Providence. A cloistered 26 seat dining room puts the focus on the plate, surrounded by warm washes of cove light across plaster walls, a golden patchwork ceiling, and a pair of dramatic recessed booths. @claudinepvd is the first restaurant from the husband-and-wife team of chefs Josh Finger and Maggie McConnell, and it opened its doors seven weeks ago. by @edit_at_streetsense_

A balance of materials enlivens a narrow palette, here with four different wood finishes giving a matte backdrop to a glossier feel at the counter with polished marble, brass, and glazed tile. It’s just a small wet bar to support the resident lounge and pool deck at @novel14thst apartments, but every surface a resident interacts with sends a message about how much care went into the building. taken in NOVEL 14th Street by Crescent Communities by @edit_at_streetsense_

Introducing @ryebunnydc, a cozy candlelit restaurant in DC. This was a special project for us, a reinvention of the former Michelin-starred Tail Up Goat space we designed a decade ago.

Shifting to a more casual counter service model called for a relaxed atmosphere, and we took inspiration from folk art and traditional crafts, working with @monochrome.collective to deck out the space with vintage quilts, baskets, pottery, and a series of custom dividers by @capitolhillstainedglass.

Personal touches make their way into the rest of the space with leather rag rug upholstery wrapping the booths, a quilt-inspired patchwork tile floor, and pressed plants in the paper globes warmly illuminating the space.

@ottocompanies worked construction miracles in a tight timeframe to go from Tail Up Goat’s closing to Rye Bunny’s opening within three months, finding creative ways to make a lot of the existing elements fit the new design.

We’ve been fans and friends of @jillmarietyler and @jonsybert for a long time, and while we’re not impartial this feels like their most personal restaurant yet, an opportunity to spend an evening at what feels like the city’s best dinner party night after night. by @edit_at_streetsense_

The neon doorway at Bar Betsie - inspired in equal measures by Dorothy Draper’s playfully embellished thresholds, the 18th century painted copper tents of Louis Jean Desprez, and a local psychic’s neon window curtains, this doorway makes for strong visual punctuation at the end of the space. Set into a mirrored wall, the wood cutout frame and channeled LED tubing stand up to run-ins with customers, staff, and deliveries. Never has an entrance to a bar’s bathrooms and kitchen been more grand! by @edit_at_streetsense_

The Apollo features innovative hinged screen wings that unfold from a booth surround to create a security enclosure between the lobby and cafe after hours, setting the standard for an elegant retail connection a decade ago in our first big multifamily project nearly a decade ago.
