I’ve been listening to, talking about, and thinking about music a lot lately. I’ve also been lucky enough to see a few shows that genuinely recalibrated my senses, hopes and intentions around music, especially through the communities and people I’ve met along the way.

The ‘90s have resurfaced in my digging. Maybe they never really left. Digging deeper into that era has helped me understand why certain sounds shaped my tastes in the first place, while offering a welcome antidote to algorithmic, passive listening.

All of this feels like the perfect context for this Friday’s Re.Sonãncia at our beloved @deadwax.enmore

@skjethani is no stranger to music heads, and lately I’ve been learning so much from him about the intertwined journeys of life and music, and how we can shape both in ways that support authenticity in the public sphere. I’ll leave it at that. Come and listen for yourself as he shares a bag of black gold connecting ethnographic soundscapes with music rooted in reality, resistance and freedom.

Then there’s @edseven . A true master behind the decks. Someone who has dedicated a lifetime to music, and someone I continue to learn from whenever we happen to be in the same room. We go back to Mixagi days, in fact one of our very first bookings. I’ve seen him play many times, and every set feels like a first: a story told with precision, flawless technique and the most wonderfully absurd record selection imaginable.

This Friday from 7pm.

Come through!

London! An hour of records at @cafe_1001
Surrounded by plants 🪴 and Tannoys so felt like my living room… lots of London purchases in the mix (Bruk, House, Boogie etc..) which I had to get to know via YouTube as no turntable in my Airbnb 😅

Thanks to Leo and crew for having me down 🔈💫✨Lots of wonderful guest mixes in this channel, link in bio 🔗

Bandcamp write up:

‘A continuation of the afro futuristic sonic
exploration, kept in its raw form.
London boogie & house not house working under jazz influences,
made for dancers footwork in heavy club
grooves all spread over two pieces of
vinyl. ’

Home! 💫 London memories… got to see a lot in 2 weeks! Thanks to all the old and new friends for showing me around 💕Gigs were great and got to check many spots on my list… Spiritland, Brilliant Corners, Jumbi, Hidden Grooves etc.. 🔈🔈🔈and the BBE 30th party on my last night ⚡️⚡️⚡️

So many great record stores .. pushing 45kg in luggage 😅

Stayed Shoreditch then Notting Hill but next time will def stay North / South as that’s where I generally ended up.

Somehow got all my records (distributed across three bags) 💼 onto the plane with paying a fortune. Can’t wait to come back ✨

Note: slide 6 is the 6 flights of stars (98 of them) to my last Airbnb 😪 😅 taken in London, England by @edseven

Spiritland! What a space and system 🔈🍊💫

So fun to share so many favourite records for nearly 6 hours 😌 (link in bio).

Thanks to the friends that came through, the wonderful staff and Paul for booking me. Can’t wait to come back!

Very grateful (blah blah) to travel the world experiencing spaces like this so focused on music presentation and run by likeminded souls.
