I just came back from an epic trip to Sedona, Antelope Canyon, and the Grand Canyon — and honestly, it was exactly what my spirit needed.

When your purpose, meaning, and calling are rooted in giving back, you pour a lot into people. You hold space. You listen. You show up. You give pieces of your heart, your wisdom, your story, and your energy to help fill other people’s souls.

But this trip reminded me that I have to let my own soul be filled too.

Sedona’s spiritual energy, the vortex, the red rocks, the stillness — it felt like a reset. Antelope Canyon reminded me that even the deepest places can hold beauty and light. The Grand Canyon reminded me how small we are, but also how powerful creation, purpose, and presence can be.

In this type of work, rest is not a luxury. It’s essential. We cannot keep pouring from an empty cup. We have to step away sometimes, breathe, reconnect, and remember that our spirit needs care too.

I’m coming back renewed, refilled, grounded, and more purposeful.

Sometimes the journey away is what prepares you to return stronger.

Deep River the Mystic Comrade

While I was taking a grueling spiritual trek with my spiritual brothers I came out of it with a name given to me. Deep River, Mystic Comrade.

Deep River — because when my love flows like a river, nothing can stop it. That river carries healing, purpose, and the strength to keep moving, even through struggle.

Mystic Comrade — because I walk with the people. I walk with those who are hurting, those who are healing, and those who are transforming. I believe love, service, and community can guide us back to ourselves.

I am a spiritual brother who walks with people through struggle, healing, and transformation. And when my river is flowing, it flows with love, purpose, and the people I walk beside.

In my recent interaction with the mighty river, I couldn't help but appreciate that I am carrying my mighty name still to this day.

Honored to be recognized by the Steinberg Institute as a 2026 Mental Health Champion.

This recognition means a lot to me, but it is bigger than me. It highlights the power of people who are driven by purpose, meaning, healing, and service. It honors the people who have found meaning not only in their own pain, but also in the harm they have caused and the harm others have experienced.

The work of mental health, healing, and justice is not done alone. It is carried by community, by credible messengers, by survivors, by families, and by people who choose every day to turn their lives toward repair.

There are many people who walk with living amends — people who understand that healing is connected to accountability, and that true community safety is built through transformation, service, and love.

Grateful for this honor, and grateful to everyone walking this path with me.

At ARC, we support families traveling to visit their loved ones at one of the fire camps in Sacramento, where incarcerated individuals are building a path toward becoming firefighters in partnership with Cal Fire.

We help make these visits possible by providing transportation, a safe healing place to stay at the ARC ranch, and food for families along the way. More than just a trip, this is about creating space for connection, restoration, and community.

This work is deeply personal to me. For 24 years, my family visited me at least once a month like a ritual. I saw the toll it took on them. They had to save up like they were planning a vacation to see me paying for hotels, food, gas, and long drives from places as far as Pelican Bay and near the Arizona border. I know firsthand the financial and emotional burden that family visitation can bring.

That is why this program means so much. Removing some of that burden and giving families a safe, healing space surrounded by community and family members sharing the same journey is powerful. Family connection matters. It strengthens hope, supports healing, and reminds our loved ones that they are not forgotten.

Big shout-out to the people who lead this impactful program, @cindeedoll88 and @_carlos.cervantes_ @moses.gallegos @antirecidivismcoalition @cal_oycr @autumn.starr1 and Edward.

Lastly, we can't do this without the strong family members who entrusted us with their care. Seeing them is an inspiration. The amount of showcasing what unconditional love is was moving which will affect me for the rest of my life. Thank you for letting me be a witness.

I was extremely proud to show up with youth from El Centro Del Pueblo @ecdpfsc_la , The Pico-Union Boxing Club @thegrafflab and the @antirecidivismcoalition to experience the CocaCola @cocacola FIFA Fan Zone.

Sports bring communities together.

This is on my desk at @antirecidivismcoalition

This isn’t decoration.

It’s a compass, a bell, and a memory that keeps me steady.

That photo is my first retreat after coming home-18-20 mothers who lost their children to gun violence, trusting me with their grief and their strength. I know what carnage I have done and I vow to do what I can to ensure no mothers go through this.

The compass that @healingdialogueandaction gifted me reminds me to follow my heart. HDA reminds me that if I keep letting my heart lecture then nothing will stop the soul medicine I offer.

The bell reminds me to stay present.

These symbols remind me to stay grounded. To stay heart-driven, and to keep up a living amends. by @edwin.tp1004
