I’m sorry baby, I don’t work for Insomniac. Why ? Did they say something? 🤭 LOL No, but in all seriousness….I’m not a professional, I just fuck around and make stuff happen 🪄 I do think I need my own professional equipment for that particular gig and some training. So no 🤭😎🍵 maybe someday I’ll be able to record for them AND 6AM 🖤🔥 taken in Chinatown, Los Angeles by @eevee.la

LOS ANGELES — THE ONE HUNDRED 💯🎭

We’re back Friday, October 9th for a very special edition:

THE OCTOBER COSTUME GET DOWN. 👻🪩💀

First, a BIG thank you to DJ Jiwa + Ritchie for bringing the energy last month and helping make that dance floor what it was. 🖤 @i.am.jiwa @ritchmirez

And thank you to EVERYONE who came early, stayed late, danced, connected, and made the night happen.

That’s what THE ONE HUNDRED is about.

Now October belongs to:

JULIET MENDOZA + SAMO
ALL NIGHT LONG.

Two DJs.
One room.
No headliners.
No hierarchy.
No waiting for the “main act.”

Just music, movement, costumes, sweat, soul, and a dance floor that keeps going.

🎭 COSTUMES HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.
Come strange.
Come beautiful.
Come funky.
Come spooky.
Come as somebody else.
Come as yourself.

Just COME. TO. DANCE. 💯

Expect house, deep grooves, soul, rhythm, and those records that make you look across the room like…

“WHAT IS THIS?!” 🔥

Rooted in Chicago.
Inspired by Detroit.
Connected through New York, London & Los Angeles.

THE ONE HUNDRED is about the whole night.

The first record.
The last record.
The friends you came with.
The people you meet.
The unexpected moment when the entire room locks into the same groove.

No spectators.

Last week, I traveled from East LA to the UK to attend a weeklong conference and consortium at Oxford University focused on Global Health and Human Rights. 🌍✨

Sitting in those rooms, listening to professors, researchers, scientists, and advocates speak about climate change, health, inequality, and the importance of local action was powerful. But what stood out to me the most was hearing over and over again that real change begins in our communities.

That hit home for me.

For nearly 20 years, community work was a huge part of my life from Youth Radio L.A., Art Share LA, to the work I did with The Ovarian Psycos and even Comida No Bombas (and so many more). I have seen organizers, neighbors, families, and everyday people step up for one another long before anyone gave them a title, a degree, or recognition for the work they were doing. Many of those people have also become my friends, mentors, and examples of what leadership truly looks like.

Being able to take those experiences with me to Oxford and speak from the perspective of someone who comes from Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles meant more to me than I can fully explain. I was not there just carrying my own story. I was carrying the stories, struggles, strength, and knowledge of the community that helped shape me.

This experience reminded me that education is powerful, but knowledge does not only live inside universities. Our communities hold knowledge too. Our parents, our elders, our organizers, our neighbors, and the people doing the work every single day have so much to teach us.

You do not need to come from privilege to have something valuable to say. You do not need a prestigious title to make a difference. And you do not need to wait for permission to care about your community.

Our planet needs all of us. Our communities need all of us. We need more people willing to show up, get involved, support grassroots organizations, learn from one another, and take action.

From East LA to Oxford and back home again, one thing feels even clearer to me now: where I come from is not something I leave behind when I enter spaces like this. It is exactly what I bring with me. TLAZOCAMATI❤️🌎 taken in Oxford University, Oxford UK by @eevee.la

Chicken Leather 🕊️ I know your spirit is with us, but I can’t help but feel sad. It was an honor knowing and working with you. I’m truly hurt. I swore you’d live till 110. I guess I was wrong. Times were way simpler when all we had to worry about was mislabeling spokes, losing valve caps, and you making the rest of us look stupid at Jeopardy.
