I’m a few days late with this post, but I wanted to shoutout @winterhillbrewingcompany and congratulate them on their 10 year anniversary. Since they opened, WHBC and @bertramholdredge have welcomed me as a patron and a performer many many times and gave me opportunity the share my music with friends, family, and strangers, some of whom have since become friends. I’ve had the honor of playing alongside many incredible artists, some of whom I also consider friends and family, and I’ve shared many meals and beverages provided by the incredible bar staff and kitchen at WHBC. As a performer, there haven’t been many places that took care of me nearly as well as Bert and crew, and I am filled with gratitude for the space, the people, and the opportunity to share so many memories over the years. It’s truly become one of my favorite places on earth, and one of the most important places in my life.

There are too many people to shoutout who have been in my company at the brewery and on the stage but I’d be remiss if I didn’t specifically thank @ryantheterrible @jeffroweboat for their support and for introducing me to the space and the stage at WHBC. I am forever in your debt.

I’d also like to thank @samuelcpadraig for continuing to make WHBC the special place that it is and support my connection there. I’ve been lucky enough to call Sam friend for almost 25 years, and I hope I’m lucky enough to do so do another 50.

Lastly, I want to give one more shout out to my friend and general manager at WHBC @bertramholdredge, for keeping the dream alive, for still inviting me to play and share the stage with friends, and for continuing to create a space where the greater Somerville community can congregate for great beer, great food, great people, and so much more. Bert’s support and belief in me is one of the reasons i keep writing and playing songs.

I am endlessly grateful to everyone, and hope to be drinking and playing at WHBC for the rest of my life. taken in Winter Hill Brewing Company by @eggybenedict

Had the pleasure of seeing my best friend @petemaddenjr and his artwork at the “Put a Flower On It!” art show @eastmanningprojects gallery this weekend (please forgive my reflection and poor picture taking skills, he’s the photographer in the relationship). Peewee’s work with instant photography and especially 8x10 Polaroid always amazes and inspires me, and I’m so proud and honored to know him as a person and an artist. by @eggybenedict

Seijun Suzuki is perhaps my favorite film discovery of the. After watching Branded to Kill I was desperate for more and quickly amassed a handful of titles by the famed Japanese director, whose fusion of Nikkatsu crime cinema with French new wave technique is unlike anything I’ve seen. I’ve only watched the top three discs in the pile, but I’m very excited to continue my journey and to have this book as a companion to contextualize his career and style as I explore more of his output. by @eggybenedict

Prior to moving in with Nell, I had never seen a Miyazaki movie – mostly as a result of my lack of curiosity and exposure to anime overall. I like animated films a lot, but had never really given anything outside the DreamWorks/Pixar/Disney much of a chance. I’m deeply grateful that I was encouraged by Nell to do so because Miyazaki has become one of my all-time favorite film, directors, and artists I was thrilled to discover that all of his work with studio Ghibli is available on Blu Ray in steel book editions, with the most recent film The Boy and the Heron (which I rewatched last night) being released in 4K. by @eggybenedict

Yesterday I received the new 4K steelbook for Kingdom of Heaven, Ridley Scott’s misunderstood (and misrepresented) masterpiece. Scott is known for having his films cut by the studio as well as meddling with them himself post-release, is a director with a wide variety of highs and lows, and someone I’ve been aware of and loved as long as I’ve watched movies. It was a massive surprise for me to find a new one that became an instant favorite, near or possibly at the top of my ranking of his filmography. I first caught it about a year ago when I came across a twitter thread waxing poetic about the Director’s Cut, and after rooting around the internet for more info it was clear that the film’s poor reputation was specifically the Theatrical version, and that the Director’s cut has a reputation for being much better and almost a different film entirely, with an extra 50 minutes and some significant structural differences. I rented the Director’s Cut and fell absolutely in love and immediately bought the disc that included all versions. Flash forward a few more and the steelbook with 4k versions of each cut was announced and I instantly purchased it. I plan to revisit the Director’s Cut and then later visit the Theatrical once I have a clear sense for the structure and pacing of the version I fell for. by @eggybenedict

It’s always fun when a disc release comes with limited edition items. I missed the deluxe package for @cinematographefilms latest release or John Badham’s DROP ZONE (1994) which came with Badham’s book On Directing, but I was lucky enough to snag this limited edition which came with a Cinematographe parachuter toy. Cinematographe is quickly become one of my favorite sub labels going because of its specific curation, gorgeous artwork, and fun extras. by @eggybenedict
