Growing up, I always heard people talk about “Arabs in America.” It turns out they were really talking about Arabs in the diaspora third culture kids.

The ones who romanticise the things that don’t really exist anymore: the plastic chairs, patterned Arabic couches, old songs playing in the background, the little corner shop, street shawarma, falafel, and that feeling of home you can’t quite recreate.
