Barbershop Talk was more than a conversation. It was a space for men to be honest, connect, learn, and speak openly about wellness, relationships, fatherhood, health, and the things they do not always get the opportunity to talk about.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their perspective, listened, and helped create a room where real conversations could happen without judgment.
This is what community looks like when we make space for men to be heard, supported, and reminded that taking care of themselves matters too.

Hosted by Shawn Walker @mrshawnwalkerinnertainer with Heart Sistas @heartsistas , Ego vs Ego, Ego Sr. @egofergusonsr , Ego Jr. @unleash_the_ego , and Dr. Jude @therealdoctorpreneur . More conversations like this are needed, and this is only the beginning.

See you at the next event! taken in Florida by @egofergusonsr

Pete Carroll had been coaching for decades when he told Ego Sr. something he never forgot:

He could count on his hands how many times he had dealt directly with a Black father during recruiting.
That hit different.

Ego Sr. was there with JR during his football journey, doing exactly what a father is supposed to do: showing up, asking questions, being involved, and helping guide the process.

And that’s the bigger conversation.
Black fathers matter. Presence matters. Guidance matters. And when that connection is missing, everybody feels it.

“We have to find a way to reconnect this.”
What do y’all think is getting in the way of that connection today?

“Put 40 pounds on her.”
That might be the most controversial relationship advice Ego Sr. has ever given.

But too many people choose partners based on looks, attraction, and what they see right now. Very few stop to think about who that person will be years down the road when life gets hard, circumstances change, and appearances fade.

In this conversation, Ego Sr. shares one of the most memorable pieces of relationship advice he ever gave his son and the lesson behind it sparked a conversation that still stands today.

Agree or disagree?

Joy said football is STUPID and Ego Sr. was ready to end the whole podcast. 😭🏈

According to Joy, watching grown men run around chasing a ball is one thing, but watching a man scream at the TV over it? Immediate turnoff. 😂

Ego Sr. was NOT having it. He argued that professional athletes are modern-day gladiators who deserve respect for the years of discipline, sacrifice, and dedication it takes to reach the top of their craft.

And our guest Athena wasn’t exactly on Joy’s side either!

As a boxer and sports enthusiast herself, she understands the talent and hard work behind professional athletics.

But Joy wasn’t backing down. Football? Stupid. Basketball? Also stupid. Soccer? Don’t even ask. 😭

Now the question is... Is Joy completely out of pocket, or are there other people who genuinely don’t understand the obsession with sports?

And ladies, be honest: Is a man yelling at the TV during a football game a turnoff, or is Joy doing too much? 👀

People are spending differently.
Budgets are tighter.
And the signs are showing up everywhere.

Do y’all agree that Walmart can tell you a lot about where the economy is headed, or is that a reach?

Who really controls your platform when someone else can shut it down?

Ego Sr. talks about watching Boosie Badazz build a massive audience online, only to be cut off from the same platforms he depended on.

Then Joy shares her own experience with an old Instagram post being removed years later, which opened up an even bigger conversation about censorship, control, and how much power social media platforms really have.

So what do y’all think?
Are these platforms just enforcing their rules, or do they have too much control over what people can say, share, and build?

Shit’s about to get tight.

Ego Sr. says the economy is shifting, resources are getting tighter, and people may need to start thinking differently about how they spend, save, and prepare.
The message is simple: conserve your resources, get back to basics, and pay attention to what’s changing around you.

Do y’all think people are financially prepared for a rougher economy, or are most people still spending like nothing is changing?

This podcast was never about the money.

Ego Sr. said it plainly: if Ego vs Ego never makes a quarter, they’re still good.

The goal is bigger than that. Tell real stories. Share where they came from. Give somebody direction. Maybe help one person or one family see something differently.
If that happens, the podcast already did what it was supposed to do.

What matters more to y’all, building something profitable or building something that actually has impact?

The audience had thoughts about the Passport Bros conversation 👀

@iamscenesetter weighed in on why some men choose to date overseas, and that opened up a bigger debate about expectations, submissiveness, control, and what people are actually looking for in relationships.
Joy’s take? In some situations, that dynamic can become predatory.

Ego Sr. strongly disagreed.
So where do y’all land on it?

Are some Passport Bros genuinely looking for love and a different lifestyle, or are some looking for more control than they feel they have at home?

Shoutout to @iamscenesetter for adding to the conversation.

Are the unks really better than the YNs? 👀

Ego Sr. says getting older does not automatically make somebody wiser, but when it comes to younger men vs. the unks, he still knows which side he’s picking 😂

Then he hit us with:
“The only thing I like old is liquor and money.”
Joy already knew where that conversation was headed 😭

So what do y’all think? Does age usually come with more wisdom and stability, or are some unks just older YNs?
