There are many different paths to dive into crafts. This is just my way of self-taught #handquilting. I try for my quilt not to be too tight in the frame. Probably, my thread is too long for many but it is just right for me. My sight isn't what it was to be so threading is becoming harder, thus the longer thread. Plus YLI ecru thread is superb and does not tangle easily. I either use John Smith or Clover golden coated eye needles. Couldn't quilt without the needle puller, either. And add to the final recipe a very good light to see under. And patience. That always comes in handy ☺️. Blessed Sunday to you all, quilting friends. We took a little family field trip to the village we used to live in. My two sons were born here. Sorry for the picture overload. This little wooden bridge is just so perfect. As is the small ancient church. The light was warm and golden. Binding time. Incredibly enough, I have at last finished hand quilting my hexie quilt, a version of the glorious #maggiemaguiresgardenquilt designed by lovely @elmgrovepatchwork . I started basting the 5/8" hexagons for the first hexie flower in march 2020. It has been an amazing journey. The hand quilting of the central basket is pretty dense, as is the border, which took me about the same amount of time to hand quilt as all the hexie flowers together. My first attempt at the center pinwheel from the Bluebird Skies quilt. This is a glorious, happy project. Just what's needed. Designed by very talented @flowerchild.quilts . Caution: long post. Ms. Maule is finished. She has been for a couple of weeks now. But I didn’t want to let go, not quite yet. I guess this happens when you have been dedicating a ridiculous amount of time to something for no other reason than being passionate about it. This impossible adventure started on January2022 when @quiltingcat2 shared a picture of a breathtaking red and green quilt. It was love at first sight, what can I say. I knew this was the album quilt I’d like to attempt to reproduce. Without much thought, I got in touch with @quiltingcat2 and asked her for permission to reproduce. She was so gracious and generous as to say yes, and I’ll be forever grateful…what a journey it would become. I couldn’t imagine the work that it would involve to achieve such a crazy task. Definitely could not have done it by myself alone.It was my sweet daughter who helped me draft every one of the 57 blocks. Sewing would need of some help as well. I thought it would be easier (and much more fun¡) to gathered a group of sewing friends to share, cherish and cheer along the way. Thank you to each one of you who trusted me, who looked forward to the new blocks each month. Thank you for all of the inspiration and love. I know you all did finished before me. But even though I knew this was originally a coverlet, I wanted to hand quilt it. She deserved so¡ And that has taken me several years and a lot of perseverance and patience. I have shadow quilted around every shape, every flower, every bird. And. Every. 3280 leaves. Amen. I know this is a very long post, thank you so much to those of you who accompanied me till the end. If you scroll past the last pic, you’ll see me rearranging the quilt while taking the beautiful pictures. That also required a team work. My husband and two boys helped me with that. And I was allowed to take pictures at a close historical site: The palace of Elío. Its tower dates from the XI c., isn’t that amazing¿ Thank you, dear quilting friends. While I wait for my binding fabric to arrive, I managed to finally finish this beauty. Designed by @suzannevanderschoot , using @jeannekedotcom marvellous stamps. Inspired by "Ms. Honey" antique quilt. It's been hand pieced and hand quilted. A big thank you to @carinschnitger who generously gifted me with her extra fabrics (I also added some bits of my own, like that precious conversational, Aldo a gift from @jmbuy several years ago...my treasure!!). So afraid of cutting the excess borders. It went smoother than I expected. Now waiting for the binding fabric to arrive. Four and a half years in the making, hand quilting included. It is a reproduction of a 1845 Baltimore quilt . Original belongs to @quiltingcat2 who generously granted permission for reproduction. A tour the force .
