My mom was getting rid of our baby blocks. What I didn’t realize was that our baby blocks were scrap wood salvaged from the Martin Guitar dumpster, one of which I turned into an historically inaccurate gravestone for Beth March (don’t remember doing this) with my favorite milky gel pens (do remember spending 30 minutes picking the perfect colors out at Staples though). To another one we glued a picture of a horse. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that the best parts of us stay the same. by @eidlehands

“Creative bubble reformed!“ my one friend messaged me after last Sunday’s class. Several other people messaged me about the poems and stories they wrote or are working through.

Because of this feedback and because I capped the first class to allow for a more intimate experience, I am going to teach it again on February 2nd.

This class is for anyone who wants to write— whether or not you are doing it already. You will leave with some ideas on how to be a more present observer, find a greater sense of wonder, build more connections between your observations and memories. We will spend most of the shared time getting out of our brains and into our writing!

For fans of Annie Proulx, beautiful sentences, jasmine notes, desserts sweetened with rosewater, heavy adjective-use, and words for the sake of words- join my November class ‘In Praise of Prose.’ If you are not a fan of fall and are missing the fragrant notes of the tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths, this is your class.

This will be the final edition of TECC for 2024. I’m taking the month of December off to rot and read and sip tea with the people I love. Some form of this club will be back in 2025, mark my words, but if you have been considering joining us, this is the class to join. It’s always a good time.

October so far: Remembering to dress up but not to clean the mirror/the contrast of two beans/walking a broken bike after a post-supper ride around the neighborhood/listening to Kate talk about her work/celebrating kids we love/digging potatoes as a family/cleaning out the office which included cleaning a big mouse nest out of my typewriter/sore arms from hand splitting kindling and digging over 100 ft of potatoes by hand but it feels good to be this physically tired after having my brain drained by mental work for years/ king of the house/sending messages back and forth, but with whom? by @eidlehands

Welcome October! For the second edition of Thursday Evening Craft Club, the online literary craft discussion group and gathering of literary minds, we’re going to talk about the narrator. Do we trust her? Do we care if we don’t? How does their reliability change the story? TBD if we will be reading a Clarice Lispector story or not but this pic of her fit the vibes. We are definitely doing more reading than last time and we will be getting even freakier because why not. That’s how it is when you hang with me. Message me to save a spot. Reach out with questions. This is going to be fun. As always, this class is open to writers, readers, and everyone in between! Space is limited to grab your spot today. 🕯️🌀🍂 by @eidlehands

When we travel, we usually plan nothing but where we are resting our head and it delivers every time. Some highlights from Squamish, Ucluelet, and Tofino. Stumbled upon caves in the cliffs that disappeared with the tides. Secret beaches. Picked up shells and stones and sea glass for hours. Slept in a glass house by the ocean. Sweat in the sauna and dipped in the cold sea (repeat every morning). Rediscovered the light. Chased away the damp and cold of sleeping in a rainforest. Walked through old growth forests. Marveled at Marie-France’s DirtPalace. Borrowed some kayaks to visit the seals. by @eidlehands

When my sister and I were small, we would constantly be working on arrangements of things we would call ‘set ups’ and as I traipsed through the yard, greenhouse, and gardens to decorate the fireplace of our living-room-turned-heatwave-bedroom, I thought it’s so nice I’m diligently working on set ups 30+ years later. by @eidlehands

More looking in the mirror this month (this year) | Burning two candles at one end and one end only | The first snow. May it be foreshadowing for many more snows to come | Grateful to have grown the food that feeds our friends | New discovery! A perfect circle of moss and a heart. A gloriously cold day hiking to Sunfish Pond. We didn’t encounter another soul for hours and arrived back at the car well after dark | Admiring colors chosen by friends during a late night wet felting tapestry that was cut up into fun shapes over coffee in the morning | Some of the books devoured in January. Repeat after me, this month I will slow down. by @eidlehands
