$A couple of weeks ago, on my “Re-Birthday,” I wrote about the fragility of life and how extraordinary it is to still be here. Well… life has a way of making sure we really mean what we say. On 3/8 — that very same day — I ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction that required a laparotomy. It turns out old scar tissue had quietly built up over time… and was literally constricting things in a way that my body could no longer tolerate. There’s something about that metaphor that’s staying with me. Old scar tissue. Things we’ve carried for a long time. And the moment when something has to be cut away to allow life to flow again. In my case, it took skilled hands and a pair of surgical scissors to quite literally free me. I’ll admit — there was a moment where I thought, “Did I somehow jinx myself talking about fragility that morning?” But as I sit here, (hopefully heading home from the hospital today), what I feel most is not fear — it’s gratitude. Gratitude for extraordinary medical care. Gratitude that this was caught in time. Gratitude that, once again, I was given the chance to heal. And deep, heartfelt gratitude for all of you — for the birthday and Re-Birthday messages, and for the love, check-ins, and support over these past couple of weeks. To be held in that way… it matters more than I can fully put into words. Once again, I’m reminded: Life is fragile. And life is resilient. And sometimes, being “freed” looks different than we expect. Coming home with an even deeper appreciation for the simple and profound privilege of being here. 💛 by @eifracch$

$Happy 11th Re-Birthday to me. Eleven years ago today, I received a stem cell transplant that gave me a renewed chance at life — a true rebirth day in my story. It’s a strange and beautiful thing to celebrate — a day that reminds me how fragile life can be, and how extraordinary it is to still be here. With my 64th birthday just nine days away, I feel an overwhelming sense of awe and gratitude for the years I’ve been given since that day. More time to love. More time to learn. More time to walk beside remarkable people on their journeys. These past eleven years have held so much of life — friendships deepened, new people entering my world, and others I’ve loved dearly who have left it. Through it all, I’ve been given the privilege of showing up for others in ways I might never have imagined. I don’t take this renewed life for granted. Deep gratitude to the brilliant medical teams, my family, and the friends who held me up when I needed it most. And to the many people who continue to share life’s path with me — thank you for being part of this journey. Eleven years later, I remain deeply grateful for the simple and profound privilege of being here. Eleven years ago, Chapter One of this renewed life began. I’m grateful for every page since — and for the chapters still waiting to unfold by @eifracch$
