Tom Stechert (@eins____tom) is a Berlin-based creative working at the intersection of design, craftsmanship and football culture.

Drawing on nostalgia and his connection to the sport, Tom’s (completly self taught) process involves turning familiar football objects into handmade works that sit somewhere between design and art.

His impressive and untraditional practice is a reminder of how sport can become a starting point for experimentation and creative expression.

Das Selbstporträt ist im Rahmen der Ausstellung @exhibition.no.time entstanden und beschäftigt sich mit den Themen (Un-)bekümmertheit, Rasten & Rastlosigkeit und dem eigenen Willen im Kontext von Zeit. Es zeigt mich als Kind, sitzend auf einem alten Bolzplatzball auf einer Wiese umgeben von Gänseblümchen.
Der zum Motiv passende Sitzball verleiht dem Bild eine gegenwärtige Relevanz und lädt zum Pause machen ein. Er sorgt für ein interaktives Erlebnis und ein Gefühl der Verbundenheit zum Motiv.

This self-portrait was created as part of the exhibition @exhibition.no.time and explores the themes of (un)care, rest & restlessness, and one’s own will in the context of time. It depicts me as a child, sitting on an old football on a meadow surrounded by daisies.
The sitting ball, which matches the motif, lends the image contemporary relevance and invites the viewer to take a break. It creates an interactive experience and a sense of connection to the motif.
