**New Arrivals at Eisele Gallery**

We are pleased to offer for sale two watercolors by Cincinnati artist Jack Meanwell (1919โ€“2005), a landscape and Night Sky, both dating to around 1979.

Created relatively early in Meanwell's artistic career, these works reveal his developing interest in abstraction while maintaining a strong emphasis on form. They offer an interesting look at an artist beginning to move away from representation while still holding onto the recognizable elements of his subjects.

Both watercolors also come with a meaningful provenance. The consignor's father was a faculty member at Northern Kentucky University alongside Meanwell. He acquired the works directly from the artist, either through a private sale or a university faculty exhibition. Both have remained in the same family since 1979, the first year Meanwell taught at NKU.

Recently rematted and affordably priced, these two watercolors offer collectors an opportunity to acquire early works by an important Cincinnati artist with a direct connection to his life and career.

Visit Eisele Gallery to see them in person, visit our website linked in our profile, or send us a message for additional information.

Cincinnati Art. Then. Now. Always.

For generations, Cincinnati has inspired artists to capture its neighborhoods, architecture, landscapes, and people. From the painters who helped establish the Queen Cityโ€™s artistic identity to the contemporary artists continuing that tradition, the cityโ€™s visual history has never stopped evolving.

At Eisele Gallery, Cincinnatiโ€™s artistic past and present arenโ€™t simply an exhibition theme. Theyโ€™re part of what we do every day.

Our collection brings together historic works by the artists who shaped Cincinnatiโ€™s cultural identity alongside contemporary interpretations of the city we know today.

Some ideas never go out of style. Others never really go away.

Explore Cincinnatiโ€™s artistic legacy at Eisele Gallery. Visit us in person, browse our website, or contact us to learn more about available works.

In The Antique Shop, Cincinnati artist John E. Weis turns away from Gloucesterโ€™s famous harbor and toward the character of the town itself. Closely grouped buildings, irregular rooflines, colorful facades, and the wonderfully direct โ€œANTIQUESโ€ sign give the painting the feeling of a place encountered rather than staged.

Weis builds the scene through simplified forms, strong outlines, and rich passages of green, yellow, blue, and red. Even the smallest architectural details receive his attention, transforming an ordinary storefront into a vibrant study of color, architecture, and place.

Gloucester, Massachusetts, held particular importance for generations of Cincinnati artists who traveled to the New England coast to paint. The Antique Shop reveals that for Weis, inspiration was not limited to the coastline. It could be found in the streets, storefronts, and everyday corners of the community.

Stephen Hutchinson and Casey Ardenโ€™s Electric Prayer (2022) develops a distinctive visual language through color, line, pattern, and form. The figure emerges from an accumulation of marks rather than from a single dominant gesture, with every section of the canvas treated as an active part of the composition. Even the smallest passages demand attention, from tightly worked patterns around the eyes to the shifting lines and symbols that move across the face and surrounding field.

That intensity gives the painting a remarkable balance between detail and totality. Up close, individual shapes, colors, and marks become almost self-contained moments. From a distance, they merge into a unified portrait charged with movement and psychological presence. No area feels secondary. Hutchinson and Arden make the entire surface function at once, allowing the eye to move continuously between minute detail and the larger image.

WAITING TO BE SEEN | Opening Thursday, October 8

A first look at three photographs from Waiting to Be Seen, Eisele Galleryโ€™s exhibition presented as part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial, The Long View.

Through street photography and photojournalism, Waiting to Be Seen looks at the street as a stage for moments that are fleeting, unscripted, strange, intimate, humorous, and deeply human. The exhibition brings together images of performers, passersby, public gatherings, and everyday encounters, asking us to pay closer attention to the people and moments that might otherwise disappear into the background of daily life.

Presented within FotoFocus 2026, The Long View, the exhibition joins a larger conversation about time, perspective, and photographyโ€™s ability to preserve encounters long after the moment itself has passed. The Biennialโ€™s theme asks viewers to think across distance and duration, considering how photographs shape the way we understand people, places, and history.

WAITING TO BE SEEN
Part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial โ€œThe Long Viewโ€ @fotofocuscincinnati

Who gets noticed? Who becomes part of the visual record? And what happens when a photographer stops long enough to really look?

Waiting to Be Seen explores the power of photography to isolate a moment, a face, or an individual from the constant movement of everyday life and insist upon their presence.

In these photographs by Tim Harrier, Melvin Grier, and Rachel Rampleman, that act of seeing takes radically different forms. A man stands surrounded by the visual clutter of an Over-the-Rhine storefront. A single figure climbs above a dense crowd, becoming immediately distinct from the faces below. A performer applies makeup backstage, captured in the intimate process of constructing the identity that will soon be presented to an audience.

Across eleven photographers, Waiting to Be Seen considers photography not simply as documentation, but as an encounter between photographer, subject, and viewer. These images ask us to slow down, look again, and consider the people who might otherwise disappear into the crowd, the street, or the passing moment.

Photography does more than record that someone was there. It gives us the opportunity to see them.

ART IN FULL PROOF | Richard Luschek & Lost Bridge Beverage Co. Rye Whiskey @lost_bridge_beverage

A new episode of Art in Full Proof is now live.

We sit down with Cincinnati artist Richard Luschek @luschek to talk about nostalgia, academic training, the influence of Carl Samson, and the way he approaches his still lifes almost like plays on a stage, carefully arranging objects, light, and space to build a sense of drama and narrative.

We also pour a few glasses of Lost Bridge Beverage Co.'s Rye Whiskey, featuring a bottle Richard helped design.

Paintings by Richard Luschek are currently available at Eisele Gallery. If youโ€™re interested in one of Richardโ€™s paintings, comment below, send us a DM, email the gallery, or visit www.eiselegallery.com.

What happens when a contemporary artist is asked not simply to paint Cincinnati en plein air, and not just reproduce a historic painting, but to answer it?

For Echoes of Plein Air: Cincinnati Reimagined, Nate Flanagan and Brad Davis each began by drafting a historic Cincinnati painting. They then returned to those same places with their own canvases, responding to what the earlier artist saw, what has changed, what remains, and what they themselves bring to the conversation.

The result is neither a copy of the past nor simply another plein air painting of Cincinnati. It is a visual conversation across time between the historic artwork, the place as it exists today, and the contemporary artist.

This is only the beginning.
