For years, I would flew back from France* bringing back the products I was used to because nothing I found here satisfied me. Then I discovered these three, and my suitcase got a lot lighter!

🦷 Huppy toothpaste tablets, Unpaste is great too!
🫧Dip shampoo bar helped me go longer between washes
🌿 Little Seed Farm deodorant cream, the best, it truly works.

No plastic tubes or bottles, all are refillable and have clean ingredients. What more could I ask for?

Kitchen things I stopped rebuying: paper towels, sponges, cleaning products in plastic bottles, cling wrap… Since I swapped for non-toxic, reusable essentials, I completely skip these aisles at the grocery store (good because they gave me a headache).

Joke aside, a long ingredient list is usually not a great sign but what’s on it matters even more.

My label-reading rules for any product:
🚩 A long list of names you can’t pronounce
🚩 The word “fragrance”
🚩 Names ending in -paraben or -eth, or starting with PEG

The waste is truly the scariest part of Halloween.

Every year, Halloween means costumes worn once, plastic decorations, disposable tableware, candy wrappers and pumpkins headed for the trash.

Americans are expected to spend $13.5 billion on Halloween this year, including $4.4 billion on costumes, $4.3 billion on decorations and $4.1 billion on candy.

And after the celebrations are over, more than 1 billion pounds of pumpkins are thrown into landfills every year.
And that’s before we even count all the other single-use stuff that comes with Halloween.

Halloween can still be fun without buying a bunch of things you’ll use once and throw away.

Here are 6 easy ways to make a real impact:

👻 DIY, borrow or buy a secondhand costume.

The Innovation Barn @innovationbarnclt is organizing The Great Costume Swap, Saturday, October 17, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

🎃 Choose plastic-free treats when you can, candies that come in cardboard boxes for instance
👜 Use a reusable trick-or-treat bag, an old pillow case works perfectly fine
🍂 Decorate with natural or reused items, where will you store all this new stuff anyway?
🥧 Choose a local pumpkin and actually use it: cook it, eat the seeds, compost the rest
🍽️ Skip the disposable tableware, running the dishwasher will always be better that shipping plastic stuff from the other side of the planet.
