⚡️🍬GIRLISM 🍬⚡️

What a pink-powered dream to hang my art among so many artistas I admire… and to have it sit right above THAT girl herself, Greta by @mkondrich ?? Swooning to tears. 🍉

A billion snaps to The Consortium majesties @sarahjanejamison and @wandercolorstudio for all their schemin&dreamin to make this femme takeover of the art world happen. As Sarah says, “This is just the beginning. And that’s a threat!” 💅

I call it the @sarahjanejamison effect, aka finally learning how to press down harder. 🫠

I started this drawing in my first class with Sarah a year ago and was decently happy with it… but after slowly & stubbornly learning the true magic that saturated colored pencils can make, I had to revisit it for a do-over this summer. Swipe for the fully revamped & unhinged piece, “The Ancient Pyramids of Sucra.” 🍭

And if you wanna see her in person, I’m pumpeddd that it will be showing this weekend at GIRLISM, a salon-style showcase of 55(!) women artists, brought to you by the indomitable duo of @sarahjanejamison herself and @wandercolorstudio. More deets thatta way ➡️ (and link for tix in bio).

See you there! 🍬 taken in Washington, DC by @el.a.gee

King of the Anacostia.

Anytime I see a Great Blue Heron, I stop... Is that even real?

How lucky we are in DC that these living statues are not only real, but that we get to see them along a river that was once one of the most polluted in the country. A testament to the resilience of the Anacostia & the city we love.

Naturally, @thejahone and I could think of no better muse for this year’s @anacostiamuralsfest (which yes, was back in May—posting is hard 🫠). Many, many thx to @chbcartgallery for organizing and s/o to @alldaymurals1 and @nokittenheels for being the best wall partners around. Swipe ➡️ to see the whole wall in its gigantic glory (📷: @freezeframe.af )

Monarchs are migrants. 🦋

Got to do a live painting for a Lucha Libre event in downtown DC and it felt like a fitting time to offer a small token of appreciation for all the people who come to the U.S. and make our shared home more vibrant, beautiful, and rich every day.

Also, shout out to my mom who raises and releases monarchs and gave me the fun fact that they’re the only migratory butterflies in the Western hemisphere. She’s the coolest and so are they. 🧡

My lil monsters & me. 🦖🍭💕 (swipe ➡️ for a shaky close-up vid)

Pleased as punch to have my candied colored pencil fever dreams be part of the MONSTERS! group art show at @thundersharkgallery. The artistic talent & creativity in DC simply makes my heart sing, and at last night’s opening, it was full on operatic. What a dang privilege to hang on the walls with y’all. 💘

If you wanna see some of DC’s finest & funnest artists, follow @thundersharkgallery for more MONSTERS! show events in July/August.

More on my piece later but for now, many many 🙏 to @rachelwallach and @redtablepress for curating such a masterfully happy/creepy show. taken in Washington, DC by @el.a.gee

Catch me outside! 🌬️ I’m excited to be part of Anacostia Murals Fest ‘26 with 100 murals and 100 artists over 18 days (May 1-17).

I’ll be painting a wall on Minnesota Ave with @thejahone, and there will be tons more public art and free events all across Wards 7 & 8, east of the river. See y’all out there. 🙌

Mannn I don’t know zip zilch zero about making reels or trying to film myself paint—this thing is a mess. 😂🫠🫥 But after years of putting my baby art dreamz in the corner, I figured this at least deserved a lil video.

I can’t say I ever imagined I’d paint anything for anyone but myself, much less a whole crowd. But now that I have, I plan to do it much much more. This is an art account now?

Gratitude to @thejahone for showing me the ways of the spray and to @pipkincreative for making sure DC events like this one are full of art. We need it now more than ever. Frfrfr.

Some eras end.
Some never begin.
But this one, we’re lucky,
Lives today plus infinity.
Thank you, our forever
Jefe, Boss Man, RG.

For the past 7+ years, whenever I told someone I worked for Congress, I waited for the scrunched up face of disapproval—which I often got. “I know I know,” I’d say. “But my guy is different.”

And he was. Not only was @repraulgrijalva the lifelong dedicated public servant many of us can only dream to be, he was magic. He had an intuition that often transcended the moment—and many times left him standing alone in Congress, but standing up for what was right in the end.

Maybe it was prescience or some kinda telepathy with the stars, but I suspect it was more likely the wisdom that comes from rooting yourself and your principles in community. To see him connect with real people was to see him at peace. And to see him stand beside them, celebrating victories they fought for together, was to see him at his proudest. When Leonard Peltier went home on Grijalva’s final birthday, it felt like poetry come to life.

There will be many eulogies speaking to what RG accomplished, but not enough to say how. He did it with humility, with kindness, with hilarious wit, with a bit (ok, a lot) of mischief, and by always lifting up the people who have been stepped on too long. And he did it while doodling works of art, giving gifts to everyone’s kids, asking you about your favorite music, and sharing all the chisme.

He took a chance on me and changed my life forever. I’ll spend the rest of my days trying to carry his legacy forward. And I know so many who will do the same. Magic multiplied.

May our paths in the maze cross again, boss man. Rest in Power, OG 🧡

What if a sunset feels more like a beginning than an end? Maybe 2024 was only the prequel.

Happy new year, my ppl. Onward.
