Appreciation for Iranian strength 🇮🇷💪🏻

While in Esfahan I had the privilege to witness a short session of the Iranian traditional sport Zoorkhoneh @zorkhaneh_aghashir_esfahan 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I haven’t seen anything quite like it. The tools, movements and rhythm of the session deeply impressed me and made me think of the remarcable adaptations they’d produce in the practitioners. Moreover, some of the photos at the ‘house of strength’ reminded me of that of weightlifters.

I was also kindly introduced to two tools by the coach: maces (he used 25kg ones 😳) and a heavy arch. The maces revealed my weaknesses in shoulder strength, mobility and stability. Luckily, with the indispensable help of my schatzi @sara._.mara and my father-in-law I was able to bring two 8kg Persian Mils with me 🤩.

My aim is to improve my clean rack and snatch overhead position. I’m betting the Mils will be a great for that 🎯

🇸🇻🇦🇹🇫🇷🇮🇹🇮🇷🇭🇷🇺🇸🇬🇹 October 16, World Weightlifting Day

No matter the jurisdiction or language. Whether in a new or classic WL gym. At a basement or on stage. Alone or with the homies. Whether snatch and/or clean and jerk day. If the knees, back or shoulders ache. Whether fully recovered or tired. During vacations or work days. Through good & happy, but most especially during sad and hard days… lift.

It’s about the technique, the tonnage moved, the kilometers travelled, and the buddies made along the way 🏋🏻‍♂️

🔵🟢 115 from floor and hangs. They weren’t really crisp, but judging by how it felt… this old body seems to be adapted to 115 😀 a win is a win.

⚪️⚫️ Another week goes by. But them good old legs, hip and back won’t give up just yet :)

⚪️⚪️ This edit is kinda hilarious 😆

This is significant for me* because I can finally get my right glute to work correctly. In the last months I have tried and most I managed was 1 shaky and unstable repetition at 90KG. Mostly focusing on not falling down and rushing to hold on to something. That wasn’t training. This is different now :D

I am tempted to push single leg strength now that competitions aren’t happening… see where the road leads.

⚪️⚫️ Strength is coming back. Back is okay. Okay? More like great. Greatness is a matter of time. Time for my knee to hurt…

With the old back getting better, I prepared this week to participate in the ASKÖ Meisterschaft for the first time :)
