In 2019 I spoke on a stage where @iamdrjuanitabynum was the headline speaker. An event organised by @mimiajala @mimiajalaministries Shared the stage in my section with @ruthyafolabi @chika.russell @estheralade1 . A huge blessing. Spoke our children being raised in the house of Pharoah. Moses was raised there and then went on to be the deliverer. His assignment was one that was executed with God in it always. So many of us have great children, but the plan to pull out those gifts is not there. A woman who was divorced, damaged left for dead!!! The statistics say raising two black boys means they will not amount to much. With God and a plan they were two of the top 20 brightest children in the country. Went on to win awards, play seven instruments between them all at distinction level. Music and Drama scholars at school. They are on to great things. Prayer, Planning and positioning. The past 2 years have not been easy, emotionally spiritually and mentally. at times i have felt like i was loosing my mind.

I have learnt a few things In Gods waiting room. It is during that time you build capacity for the next chapter

I want you to understand thy Life’s storms will come, but your roots can run deeper. Hold on, persevere, and emerge stronger.

Know this! You are stronger than your struggles, braver than your fears, and wiser than your doubts.

One of the hardest things I’ve had to learn is that you can be helping other people while still healing yourself.

You can be the strong one.

The one people call.

The one who encourages everyone else.

The one who holds everything together.

And still have parts of you that are tender.

Sometimes helping other people will even expose the places in you that still need healing.

I used to think I had to have everything figured out before I could pour into someone else.

I don’t believe that anymore.

But I do believe we have to be careful not to give everyone else the grace we refuse to give ourselves.

You are allowed to heal and help.

To be strong and still need support.

To show up for others and sometimes say, “Today, I need to show up for me.”

Give yourself grace while you heal.

TRUTH 02

You don’t have to carry everyone while you’re healing.

This was a hard truth for me to learn.

I became so used to being the strong one. The one who showed up. The one who found a solution. The one who kept going, even when I was exhausted.

But somewhere along the way, I realised that constantly showing up for everyone else can sometimes mean abandoning yourself.

Healing has taught me that I am allowed to put things down.

I am allowed to say no.

I am allowed to rest without explaining myself.

I am allowed to choose myself too.

And so are you.

You can love people deeply without carrying everything for them.

You can be a good woman and still have boundaries.

You can be there for others without disappearing from your own life.

Finding Me is about learning how to come back to ourselves.

For a long time, I wasn’t silent because I had healed.

I was silent because I was ashamed.

Ashamed that my marriage had ended.
Ashamed that the family I had imagined for my children looked different.
Ashamed because somewhere along the way, I had convinced myself that I had failed.

Failed as a wife.
Failed as a mum.
Failed at the life I thought I was supposed to build.

And then there were the voices.

“You’ll be fine.”

“Are you the first person to go through this?”

“Just pray.”

But sometimes faith doesn’t remove the need to process what happened to you.

Sometimes you don’t need someone to tell you to get over it.

You need permission to admit:

This hurt me.

Shame made me question my value.
It made me overthink everything.
It made me worry about what everybody else thought.
And eventually, it made me silent.

But I’m learning that what happened to me did not change my value.

My marriage ending did not mean my life ended.

And God was never ashamed of the woman I had become, even when I was struggling to recognise her myself.

This is part of Finding Me.

Not pretending the difficult chapters didn’t happen, but finally having the courage to look at them without shame.

I was shamed into silence.

I’m not staying there.
