‘Crossword Idioms’ - a self published zine and crossword book available to purchase at my upcoming show ~ ‘Temporary Dwelling’, PV 28th 7:30pm at @londonartbar.

I have taken Idioms present in British culture and hidden them as crosswords, each with brief poetic sentences to help you solve the puzzle. Once purchasing the Zine I invite you to solve the crossword puzzles as participants of the work and contact me via email once completed !
The drawings and crosswords are all monoprints that have been scanned and printed on ‘newspaper’ styled paper.

I hope they’re not too difficult🥲

For now these are currently only available at the London Art Bar during the duration of my show.

See you there 💞

The session will involve creating your own visual collages using materials from our archival collection of magazines, coloured paper and newspapers, whilst incorporating found text to construct a poem through pure spontaneity and chance.

This approach is inspired by the art movement ‘Dadaism’ founded in 1916, where artists embraced chance, absurdity and play to create nonsensical artworks, poetry and performances. Emerging from the devastating events of World War I, Dada rejected traditional artistic methods and conventional ideas of rationalism and instead experimented with notions of absurdity, play and the unpredictable.

Participants will be encouraged to act intuitively and playfully to allow unexpected combinations and connections to emerge with the materials. The session explores how chance can be a creative tool to make something new and the importance of lowering creative inhibitions.

Melissa McLean b.2001 is a sound artist and sound designer based in London. Currently studying her MA in Sound Arts at LCC, she has exhibited in galleries such as Copeland Park in Peckham and has worked on films as a sound designer and foley artist for brands such as Vans Europe.

Her sound art practice involves found object and speaker installations using methods of granular synthesis, coding in Max MSP and field recordings. With a background in classical singing she has a deep interest in using the female voice as a sound source to create intricate and haunting worlds of sound that explore themes of cyberfeminism, deep listening and memory.

🌟 NEW WORK 🌟

call you on the phone
2026

Did you used to run to answer the home telephone as a child, twiddle and stretch the smooth coiled cord wire, draped over the sofa’s arm, round your fingers, where you sit beside the warm interior light.

The sculptural installation emulates prescence in the home, fleeting moments suspended in time desiring for connection and the nurturing of adult friendships. The curled cord strains, being pulled down in a moment of tension. The lampshade appears surreal, naked and unfinished, lacking warmth, besides its exaggerated draping pink tassels, almost touching the floor.

I don’t just make art for people, for cats too.

Hand sewn and painted lampshade, 2023, untitled from a larger installation work for Robert Young Antiques store show series Contemporary Collaborations. 🌟
