I’m finally wearing this shirt that I made well over a year ago. The pattern is super. Highly recommend. I’ve never worn this because it’s possibly a touch more classic than I tend to lean.

Pattern: Liesl & Co. Classic Shirt

Fabric: Pretty sure this was a lightweight linen from @wearethefabricstore. It was a joy to sew!

I recently went to a Savannah Bananas game with my friends and we decided to make gear to wear to the game. This was the perfect excuse to try out this pattern that I’ve had on hand for a while now.

The silhouette for the shorts is a little different than I normally wear — I love them. They have a drawstring casing below the elastic casing, which helps to keep them from feeling too puffy around the waist. There’s also a button fly, but I can pull them off and on without using it.

This is a quilting cotton, which dried very well after we were drenched by rain. I’d make this pattern again!

I made this #hanaphonebag from the pattern by @soft.fold.studio out of repurposed silk kimono fabric. The pattern calls for oilcloth. I found that this silk kasuri holds the pressing and is a lightweight alternative.

I initially thought I’d use cording for the strap, but ended up making a 1/4” bias strap from 2.5cm wide bias that I didn’t trim, if that makes sense. My other mod was to replace the leather to hold the straps on the sides with webbing that I had on hand.

The fabric came from a class I took in Japan in May on deconstructing/upcycling kimono with @made.by.yuki. She’s awesome, by the way. by @electric.meow

Me Made May Day 4. All of my pajamas are handmade and get the most wear out of everything I sew. I especially like this fabric.

I had a small amount of broccoli fabric to use, so I made shorts. Does the set turn into pajamas now or just give me a pantless option? It doesn’t matter. They just make me smile.

I call this my “salad shirt.” 🥦🫑 The fabric is an embroidered cotton I found at Okadaya last year while shopping with @endorman and @bekkybush. Bekky chose the tomato print, and I went with bell peppers and broccoli! It’s surprisingly soft and washed up well.

There aren’t many examples of this pattern sewn up, which is a shame because it’s wonderful. It has a great 80s vibe and the sleeve pattern piece is delightfully unusual. It was a truly fun sew—I particularly appreciate the directionality of the back piece. While it’s playful in this print, the silhouette would look sharp in a more serious fabric. But since it is a playful fabric, I pulled out the fun buttons!

Pattern: Vogue 1476 Issey Miyake, size 12 (one size smaller than my measurements)

Fabric: Bell pepper and broccoli embroidered cotton from Okadaya Shinjuku

Buttons: Recycled plastic from @jointhefaebrik in Oslo

Mods: Placed the pocket on the outside, and adjusted the welt accordingly.

I sewed and opened the buttonhole in the wrong position on my left cuff. Decided to use machine darning (stitch #23 on my Bernina) to sew over the mistake instead of replacing the cuff. I don’t think anyone would know if I didn’t point it out. I’d use this stitch again.

Found this rare pattern on a subreddit and decided to take a gamble. It wasn’t much to go on—just some old instruction scans and a sketch of the dimensions.

After some sleuthing and calculating the angles for the straps and pleats from the vintage diagrams, I finally cracked the code! There are only two other versions of this dress on the internet, and they look quite different on everyone, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I settled on a size large (sizing up) and I love how it turned out.

Managed to get a few photos of these new pants before heading to 🇳🇴 (northern lights, please 🙏🏻) tomorrow. I decided to hem them long for now—it’s easy enough to take them up later if I change my mind. 😉

I love the 40s silhouette they have, even though the base pattern is actually from 1985. I widened the leg and lengthened the waistband by 4 inches, then decreased the front pleats to compensate for the waistband.

I tried my first corded buttonhole on this project. I’ll be using this technique again! I also used wash away stick-on stabilizer on both sides of the waistband before sewing the buttonhole. This made all of the difference when sewing across the wales on stretch fabric.

When I was looking through my buttons for a match with the buckles, I came across these galalite ones from @biasbespoke. Galalite/galalith is a biodegradable milk (caesin) plastic invented in the 1890s.

I ordered this fabric through @indybindyfabrics , and it’s a bit special—it’s hand-printed by Makumo, a two-person team in Japan. Since this was a preorder, I was able to choose the base material, and I went with double gauze, knowing I’d like to make some pajamas. I really like double gauze for winter pajamas because it’s warm and breathable without being quite as stifling as flannel.

To match the vibe of this color palette, I dug out an 80s Simplicity pattern. The top has a good amount of ease and a distinct A-line shape, which I wasn’t expecting, though I don’t mind it. The pants were about as basic as it gets with no side seams.

One thing that’s a little odd is that the top doesn’t have buttoned cuffs. I’m not sure yet if it’ll bother me that I can’t easily roll or push up my sleeves, but I’ll see how it goes.

I have a picture of the buttonhole type (on my machine) that I used on this project.  I can’t remember what it is called, but I’ve been using it on my double gauze and lighter weight fabrics lately and really like it!

I finished this set in two stages over the course of the year. I originally made the top as a pattern test for another project, knowing I’d eventually get around to making matching pants. I finally finished those right before Christmas, and it’s been a nice refresh for my loungewear.

This is the second time I have made both of these patterns and I have basically been living in the pants the last few days. The fabric is like butter. Honestly, it’s the best feeling fabric I have ever used.

Pants Pattern: Issey Miyake Vogue #v2572, size 14, cuffs omitted (1988)

Top: Stretch & Sew 1555, size 36 (1980)

Fabric: Juicy Couture stretch velour from Joann Fabrics

More details over on Threadloop. I have the same handle there.
