This first image from a beautiful @danceartjournal article post by @pagan.hunt , image by @katarzyna_perlak, from our preview performance in Newcastle two years ago was a big-ish deal for me.

It was literally one of a few times in my entire career a publication/company/entity used an image that featured my left mal-formed arm.

We always havin panels and conferences about how far we’ve come— simultaneously erasing things we have no context for that are easy to erase.

It’s not really a big deal cause I’ve had a lifetime in the arts - where we got big talk and little action.

I now think that all there is around us is little actions.
More simple, weird, beautiful and truthful actions for all please.

truth, truth, truth

my father’s uncle and aunties were made to attend spanish river indian residencial schools.

these schools forcibly stripped our peoples of our cultures as children endured unimaginable atrocities.

kids were exposed to forced industrial labour; physical, mental and se%ual abuse, and starvation at these “schools”- then studied leading to the creation of the things like the”canadian food guide”.

the legacy of this, among other colonial practices, effects us to this day.

settlers throughout turtle island/north america might be fatigued by the state of the world and our contemporary existence, but please remember we are not afforded the the same luxury of our lives without the traumas of this heritage.

our healing will not fully happen until everyone here understands this history of these lands.

again.

our healing will not fully happen until everyone here understands the history of these lands.

educate yourself, then carry that knowledge with you as you walk gently throughout our territories which have been shared with you.

🌀MIX IT UP! Some of my fave artists make something happen at my 72RHR album release party LOVE STREAMS: Cascade of Art Provocateurs Fri. June 26. Doors: 7:15PM Starts 8PM Karen Ng, a pillar of T.O. experimental music & seasoned saxophonist, creates a live music score to poets: Lee Suksi, Stevie Manning, and dancer Bee Solomon.

Poet Lee Suksi moves with deep intelligence, sensuality, and love for life. Stevie Manning expresses clarity through raw poetry that cuts to the core. Visionary Dancer Bee Solomon transforms how people view dance.

Presented by @projectnowherefest @thebabygtoronto. An astonishing array of multimedia artists bound by affection and care during Pride. Dress-up is welcome if you wanna! 🌞🌈 🎫TIX Link in bio🎟️

Video: music from Karen Ng's album Backwards Blue, digital billboard by Colby Richardson and 📸 by Green Yang, Bee Solomon #research, Stevie Manning 📸 Greg Trumper, excerpt of Lee Suksi from the documentary WHERE HAVE ALL THE POETS GONE? by Sook-Yin Lee.

BIOS: Toronto-based improviser Karen Ng has established herself as a unique musical force nationally and internationally, performing with some of Canada’s most prized artists and collaborates regularly with ad hoc ensembles in the wider improvising scene across Canada, in Europe and the US.

Stevie Manning is a poet from Toronto. Her poems have been featured in Angel Scum Press and @mtf_butches. Her poems were solicited by the Canadian Medical Association, but rejected after closer examination. Her chapbook Joan Would Say was released by KFB in 2023.

Bee Solomon, of Anishinaabe and Irish heritage, was born in remote Shebahonaning, a small First Nations community in the North Channel of Lake Huron. Bee grew up without internet, cable television or much outside influence which informed a style of dance that careens between synergy and conflict, pushing deeper into his artistry.
