Crazy to think like, a week ago I was dripping sweat in shorts 😂 but also lets bring back long form content with training! You learn so much in re watching your reps and its nice to see unedited behaviours.

I have a rule of 3 or 5 if I am training by myself. I don’t do more than 3 reps or 5. I don’t over train anymore (I used to and this causes problems eventually) and I like the numbers 3 and 5 lmao - heres two reps of mine out of 3, and I can see some things to tweak for sure!

- why am i stepping back a step on the send back? someone hit me.

- her fronts get weirdly further back the more reps we do with the dumb bell, could be the sun in her eyes, could be her targeting my eyes, IDK, but to help this i should reward between my legs so shes driving into me verses away and i don’t have to awkwardly bend to out her.

Anyway! Hope this helps or shows someone that you can tweak little pieces of skills and not hate your life while you do it! 90% of our training is play and its very unserious, this is my hobby but I do like to do it WELL so I am for excellent teaching always in my work😌

Happy Graduation to my students this past round! Joey, Gaston, and Valley rocked it!

The class was intimate and small and we covered so much more than a typical obedience class! Reactivity ready drills for the fall were a huge focus as these pups are headed straight into teenagehood at a time of year where reactivity spikes.

Yes, classes still run on sunday with me! I do have space in the next round if you know anyone who’d like to train with me 😏

Be good, pups! ❤️ your parents worked so hard!

Silly skills we practice on walks so I can use them with confidence every where else!

I see so many people on their phones on walks and just charging ahead which is fine! I do it too - but these skills are good to practice and feel less overwhelming as you walk or exercise your dog. It also gives them the chance to get really good at these skills under distractions!

got any heat wave tips!?

I have the mindset of safety first but also ….this planet isn’t getting COOLER. Climate change is here and will stay here; species will need to adapt and quickly including us!

I use a lot of timers for activity in this heat - 10 min of running, cool down immediately. 30 min casual walk, lay down in the shade to acclimate to the heat, head home. I absolutley agree that dogs with short snouts, older dogs or dogs on SSRI’s should be closely monitored in the heat and given lots of reprieve.

Its tough though - too much avoidance of a stresser can make dogs intolerant of it completley or affect their ability to have their needs met in one of the easier seasons for it.

Lots of thoughts! What are yours? Can your dog handle the heat lately or do you have other tips to share? 🥵

❤️

Enjoy every moment with them.

Thats all the advice I have. by @elementcaninetraining

Its been a while since I shared what we are up to!

Still training, mostly just enjoying outdoor adventures. Dog training is an investment of time and effort the first few years so you can hopefully enjoy the fruits of your labour eventually and we have been!

I have reduced field training and obedience to about 3x a week and have noticed thats helped both of us. I am not bored or burnt out or overly strict like I used to be and she gets to move her body in different ways plus use her brain.

I think for a second dog I’d largely prioritize pet and life skills but stick to the same schedule. ☺️

Another random fact about how I live and train: I don’t really run dogs on wet grass and because we have had so much rain, its been a lot of exploring on hikes and sniffing around in safe ways to avoid injuries.

Hope everyone is training and doing well ❤️❤️

I paid to send my dog out in the mud and find some antlers! 😌

Bebop got her first leg towards her working title in shed hunting - she found all 4 antlers in 3 min 26 seconds which was so great!

Absolutley in awe of the dogs who did it in 1 min 🥹

I have been in a pit of depression these past few months and this was our first time back in a dog sport in a long time. It was good - a little uneasy, but good ❤️

Congrats to all dogs who participated and thank you to the Canine Companion Club for hosting such a fun event. For anyone seeking a fun, easy going sport that builds off your dogs natural instincts, check out shed hunting!

🗣️🗣️🗣️I am once again standing upon my soap box to remind the dog community to critically analyze the existance of ‘back yard breeding’ (I don’t even like that term) as a consequence of capitalism rather than an individual or moral failing.

Capitalism breeds inequality. It it solely driven by profit; the dog is the commodity and you are the consumer in pretty much every aspect where there is a transaction of finances (yes - including when you buy training lessons from me). It also allows pockets of society to exist in poverty and it rewards the select few who can afford to exist at the top.

Back yard breeding (a classist term I wish people would reflect upon) is just another form of business model under this really crappy umbrella we exist under.

In order for animal lovers to minimize the abuse and selling of dogs and cats and all small animals for profit we must question why and what allows this system to exist in the first place, instead of focusing on signalling one operation out. Poverty makes people do a lot of messed up shit. Overlooking this does not push animal rights forward.

We can’t want better for animals while forgetting the people they exist around.

I always like to reflect on breeding dogs as a whole and the ethical implications of the process. I think its important we look in the mirror from time to to time.

And don’t forget - there is no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism. 🙃

If you find these helpful, cool, if you don’t then IDK scroll along 😂

Playing around with videoing stuff I like to prioritize or maybe it helps give you ideas!

Let me know if you have tried this skill before 🤔

One week post surgery and recovery is going well!

I really wish rehab programs would be suggested post spay because it is a HUGE surgery. Return to activity should be steady, not immediate. I do miss my running buddy and field time but for now we rest!

I have also decided I am using a ramp to exit and enter the car kennel forever! Its brilliant and easy to train!
