I’m Anissa (Uh Nhiss Uh). Ya favorite’s favorite neurodivergent gworl.

Artistically speaking, I am a mixed media artist, writer, and art collector. I love love love fashion, especially quirky earrings and extraordinary purses. I’ve visited PLENTY of art museums & galleries around the US and plan to visit more as I travel abroad.

I LOVE talking (A LOT), music, outdoor activities, traveling (17 US states to go!) and spending time with family and friends. But I enjoy spending time with myself as much as I love sharing myself with others.

Above all, I am human. I create and destroy. I identify as many things, but titles change like the weather. It’s nice to meet you. I do hope you stay awhile 💚. taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @elementrenu

Don’t you just love picture day?!

My girl @sonnyslight got me right. Markets, call for artist, art residencies. They all require photos & my iPhone 11 was NOT cutting it (judge me, IDC!!). From 10am to nearly 3pm Maya came through (in 99+ degree weather, mind you) and photographed me in my element, my art, and my market table set up.

What I love the most about these photos is that my aura is glowing; my art, the colors I choose, and materials I use reflect what lies beneath my cinnamon toasted skin: animation, fortitude, and eccentricity. These photos show that I not only create mixed media art, I am mixed media art. Maya captured my purpose and my joy perfectly.

Can’t wait to share more of her work and submit my photos to different art experiences! If you know of any, submit them below in the comments or DM me!

I have the privilege to travel the US and experience people’s experiences, memories, thoughts and knowledge in physical art form. I am never forgetful how honoring it is to see what people come to create.

What I am most grateful for is the ability to be a part of an artistic community; full of different perspectives, personalities, and understanding of life. it does not matter where I am. I am grateful to be there. I am inspired when I leave the art gallery, exhibit, or market. I leave knowing I am in the right space at the right time doing the right thing. And that’s all that really matters to me in the end.

Thank you missouri, wisconsin, georgia, tennessee, south carolina, new york, alabama, and DC. Looking forward to where I’ll be visiting this summer and fall.

It is my hope that my art will be hanging on the walls or sitting in the rooms of an art gallery, coffee shop, restaurant, museum, and/or home near you soon.

After 4 weeks of out of state travel, I am finally back in the studio. It’s a bit of a mess, but that just means work is getting done.

Though I have a vacay approaching + will be back in Birmingham, AL soon, majority of my travel for the fall is complete. This winter, I will be developing my skills as an artist, applying to art grants, developing + publishing my website, writing + reading, attending art shows, applying to #callforartists, and selling my work. Will it take a lot of me to do? Absolutely. Was I built for this? Of course.

@heidi.parkes is a quilter and quilting has been in her family for generations. She not only wove worn t shirts and old scarves into her work, but she also told stories from her life in her quilts as well. I appreciated seeing Parkes’ work because I have been having a hard time telling my art’s story. But seeing Heidi’s work showed me what my real issue was: people pleasing.

As a former people pleaser, sharing my story has been tough because I was not thinking enough about me, and too much about others at the cost of my own confidence. Even I would get lost in my story telling because it wasn’t truly mine. Well, yes it’s mine technically but it wasn’t a story from my soul.

I was not too much concerned about people understanding me, but I was more so worried that I wasn’t explaining myself well enough for people to understand me. However, the more I create what it is I truly feel and allow myself to be vulnerable, the more I feel confident and comfortable in my abilities to create and share my story. Thank you, Heidi, as seeing your work and listening to your story was exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

I enjoyed many things about this bookstore: the variety of books they had to offer, the prices of the books, and the convenience of the bookstore’s location. However, seeing that their art prints were selling for less than five dollars was a breath of fresh air.

I understand that at the core of owning a business is making a profit; however, I never want the cost of certain art pieces of mine to be so astronomically expensive that people of all backgrounds cannot afford to purchase my work. I understand that exclusivity makes us feel special and exclusivity attracts a certain kind of buyer. To ensure exclusivity, I will create limited editions. To ensure inclusivity, I will also create pieces that are affordable for a variety of collectors. Businesses like @downtownbooksmilwaukee help me shape my business model to be aligned with my values.

I walked in because @anthology230 had such a cute storefront, but I stayed once I found out about the art they sold. the 1000 piece community puzzle everyone has been working on, on the second floor, may have also helped me stick around 🧩

as an artist, I like to learn by doing. walking into this store helped me see what Anthology’s customers enjoy purchasing. They like bookmarks, stickers, postcards, key chains, and prints. They like color, bold statements, and they have a certain spunk about them. The art here focused more on geographic location as well. As an artist, it matters where I pitch my work as much as it matters that I want my work sold.

Walking into this store, looking around, asking questions helps me picture my work in the space. “Would this cater to my audience?” “Would this space be worth pitching to?” “Do they have my art represented? Or is what I do as an artist overly present here?” Putting myself in the position to answer these questions helps me explore where my art will hang and be sold in the near future. Ultimately, as an artist and business owner, I want my art and artistic vision to align with the business I’m interested in working with.

Another day, another visit. Though @saintkatearts hotel was sold out during the week of my trip, I never miss an opportunity to stop by and check out their newest art exhibitions.

Artist like @novaczarnecki, Byrd Bettis, and Paul Yank were carefully chosen to represent art that is extraordinary in process, thought, and skill. Seeing their work represented in a space like Saint Kate’s helps me visualize how opportunities and locations to showcase my work are in abundance.

my love for Cheese Curds and Brats runs deep, making Wisconsin one of my favorite states (Alabama just got promoted to number one).

@mitchellairport makes it easy for travelers like me to indulge in and support local art by providing @miadcollege students opportunities to showcase their prints to thousands passing through the airport everyday.

Moments like these help me expand my idea of where my art can live and how accessible businesses want the arts to be to the public. Let’s see what art Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin have to offer this week!

With the rise of AI art, local artists are a hot commodity in their communities right now; many local galleries want to support these artist. What better way to get connected than by genuinely interacting with said galleries.

Every gallery has a different vibe, vision, and aesthetic. What they want to show at @cat_eye_creative is different than what you will see at @auburnartgallery @highlandgalerie or @blackartinamerica_ . By researching the establishment, you tailor your business and story telling strategy to complement the gallery you desire to work with.

Now you can do all of these things and still may not get the outcome you desired. However, you do put yourself in a position to try, learn, and pivot. Not every move you make will be THE move that leads you to your big break. But it will be a move in the right direction, nonetheless.

What art galleries should I visit next??

What has posting consistently taught me?

1. Keeping my art to myself does not help me connect with people in my community. Posting helps build said community.

2. I have always been a consistent person. Initially, however, I was struggling to see myself be consistent in posting. I needed structure and broader ideas to help me reach 100 days of consistency.

3. Some people will care, most people will not until they do. Who cares!! If you made a commitment then stick to it!

4. Likes are cool!! But connecting with people over mutual interest is cooler & much more meaningful.

5. I can never say I am not supported. My family, friends, followers, and strangers show up for me. I am favored and for that I am grateful.

Look at what believing in yourself can do for you! Happy 100 days of consistency to me 🥳🎉 bust out the champagne! Where will I be in the next 100 days is the REAL question 👀
