What if learning about Africa went beyond the classroom?

The 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 is bringing young Africans together to learn about our diverse cultures, traditions, languages, food, history, lifestyles, and experiences while creating opportunities to 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧.

We are excited to launch the first cohort of the African Cultural Learning Program! 🎉

This online learning experience will give participants the opportunity to:
✨ Discover the richness and diversity of African cultures
🌍 Learn from people and perspectives across the continent
🤝 Connect with other young Africans
📚 Share experiences, stories, traditions, and knowledge
✈️ And eventually, take the learning beyond the classroom through cultural experiences and travel!

After the online course, we plan to take the experience a step further 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, where participants will have the opportunity to experience the culture, people, places, and heritage we have been learning about.

This year’s theme, “𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭,”reminds us of the collective responsibility we share to embrace clean energy and safeguard Mother Earth.

While the call for renewable energy continues to grow, the reality is that clean energy options remain unaffordable for many communities. This Earth Day should serve as a call to action especially for the global north—to renew their commitments and ensure that renewable energy is not just available but accessible.

Clean energy must be subsidized and made affordable to encourage wider adoption and meaningful progress toward sustainability. Protecting our planet requires equity, cooperation, and shared responsibility across all nations.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞. As we rush to church this morning, let us reflect deeply. Those of us who have, in one way or another, persecuted or victimized a woman should ask for forgiveness.

𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞. As we raise our voices against the barbarism that happened in Ozoro community, we must recognize that this is not an isolated case. In 2026, it is unacceptable that a woman cannot step outside during a festival without facing the threat of assault or molestation. These practices are not culture, these are deliberate acts by wicked men to satisfy their desires at the expense of women’s dignity. And it goes beyond festivals.

𝐈𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭‑𝐰𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 that strip them of their humanity. Ozoro is not alone; across Delta and Nigeria, harmful traditions against women continue to exist.

𝐈𝐟 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐳𝐨𝐫𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧. Silence only protects injustice.

This is bigger than one community, it is a national disgrace. For Nigeria to move forward, we must confront and end these practices. Culture should uplift, not destroy. Let us stand together to protect women, challenge harmful traditions, and build a society rooted in dignity and respect.
