When a private barrel release elevates Charlotte’s tequila landscape, the details in the glass tell the real story. ​During the @casaobsidianatequila launch at @dunbarsocial inside @ballantynehotel , I had the opportunity to review The Ballantyne Private Select Reposado: a single-barrel expression crafted at Tierra de Agaves in Jalisco, Mexico, and finished specifically in French oak wine barrels. Finishing tequila in French oak introduces a refined structural balance that sets it apart from traditional American white oak aging. ​On the sensory profile, the French oak wood influence is apparent immediately. The nose opens with subtle, warm baking spices, featuring a delicate hint of light cinnamon alongside rich cooked agave. On the palate, that spice carries through with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel, layered with soft caramel sweetness: creating a balanced contrast between subtle heat and rounded confectionary notes. ​The finish provides a clean, warming chest-and-throat resonance without being aggressive. The lingering tannin structure on the tongue leaves a persistent, sweet-and-spicy trail, making this expression exceptionally versatile. Setting a higher standard for beverage marketing in Charlotte. When luxury hospitality groups and spirits founders bring a private release to Charlotte, being in the room is about more than simply showing up. It is an opportunity to experience what a venue and beverage brand are building, understand the story behind it, and show people why it matters. I was invited to @dunbarsocial at @ballantynehotel for the launch of The Ballantyne Private Select Reposado from @casaobsidianatequila, a one-of-a-kind private tequila barrel created exclusively for The Ballantyne, crafted in Jalisco, Mexico, and finished specifically in French oak wine barrels. @ballantynehotel is currently the only venue in @northcarolina serving @casaobsidianatequila , including cocktails featuring both the Private Select Reposado and Casa Obsidiana Blanco. I also had the opportunity to meet Roberto Beckmann, Co-founder of Casa Obsidiana, who came from Jalisco, Mexico to be part of the evening and personally present the spirit and its story. The experience brought together tequila, hospitality, culinary pairings, cocktails, and the people behind the brands creating them. That's exactly the kind of drink experience I built @joeldrinks to discover and share throughout Charlotte. But @joeldrinks has grown beyond simply telling people what drink to order. Building Joel Drinks Enterprises LLC means connecting Charlotte's drink culture with the people looking for it while helping venues, distilleries, beverage brands, and hospitality groups represent what they're building through commercial beverage branding. That's why access like this matters. It gives me the opportunity to experience these launches firsthand, create content around them, and show potential partners exactly what I bring to the table.
