Everyone loves to tell pregnant women, “Sleep now, while you can.” Here’s what we wish more people said instead: exhausted isn’t a given. Rested new parents don’t get there by accident. They get there with a plan. Newborns wake 8 to 12 times a day to eat, and no sleep plan changes that in the early weeks. Babies aren’t ready to learn sleep skills until around 4 to 5 months. So instead of trying to change how often your baby wakes, we focus on something you can control: protecting your own sleep. That means building a team, planning shifts, and making sure you have protected stretches of sleep at least 3 nights a week. Sleep is when your body heals, your mind steadies and your relationship gets the patience it needs in those first six weeks. This Friday, we’re teaming up with @elevatesd at their brand-new Vista studio for Pregnancy-Safe Lagree + Mocktails & Mingle. 30 minutes of pregnancy-safe Lagree, plus the modifications to use in any regular class 30 minutes of mocktails and conversation on protected sleep for postpartum recovery, with our founder Kelly Brusch Every mom leaves with her own Protected Sleep Plan. Most of the preparing we do in pregnancy stops at the birth. The plan for the nights after usually doesn’t exist yet. On Friday, October 16, I’m joining @elevatesd at their new Vista studio for our first pregnancy pop-up. Bekah Burns, Elevate’s owner and a Lagree Master Trainer, is pregnant herself and will lead a 30 minute pregnancy-safe class. Then we’ll stay for mocktails and a conversation about protected sleep. Sleep deprivation is the number one link to perinatal mood disorders, and protecting your sleep is something you can plan for before the baby arrives. You’ll leave with your own Protected Sleep Plan, filled in. It’s also a chance to meet other North County women who are pregnant right alongside you.
