From ultra runner to Ironman wales 🐉 🤞🏼
Team @bravendurance BECSBRAV for discount ❤️‍🔥
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
@bravendurance currently have a hugeee sale on - so here’s my take on the best bits ✨
Shop via the link in my bio 🫶🏼

Seamless sculpt zip jacket - honestly the most flattering cut zip jacket I’ve ever put on my body 🤌🏼 currently £28 which is an absolute steal ❤️‍🔥

The pacer tight - iykyk!! I think one of the first BRAV items I purchased, and still probably my fave.

Perfect for ultra or long runs or for when I dont want to wear a vest.

3 pockets, 1 with zip & the side pockets are big enough for me to carry my phone, drone and dog lead and still dont budge?? They defy gravity 🤌🏼

Sculpt high neck bra - a crop top with built in support. As a girl with bigger boobs I can struggle to get support in a crop top but also hate the feeling of restriction from too much support.

This is the perfect balance of comfort and support, and my go to race fit.

Seamless sculpt run shorts - worn these for 3 of my ultras this year. A ‘short’ short with enough coverage to prevent chaffing over 50 miles, without feeling like i had an ‘ugly’ short on 🤣

A huge pocket in the back which fits an iphone pro max or at least 3 gels, again with no movement 🤌🏼

BRAV socks need no introduction surely?!

They’ve replaced every sock in my sock drawer, whether that be to run, lift, ride, wear with my cowboy boots for a concert or work boots for 12 hour shifts. The GOAT and a purchase you will never regret ❤️‍🔥 by @elevatewithbecs_

Had a few people ask whether I was actually taking a proper off season and giving myself some time off, but shock horror, my brain couldn’t quite cope with the idea of doing absolutely nothing 😂

So instead, I took the pressure off for a few weeks since Cardiff. No rigid structure, no chasing numbers, no expectations. Just training when I felt like it, because I wanted to. For the love of it, for the endorphins and for how I knew I’d feel afterwards.

But the real work starts this week with a testing week, and suddenly this whole Ironman thing is feeling very real and I have no idea what I’m doing 🫠

Feeling super apprehensive and excited about what the next 11 months are going to bring. I’ve got a lot to learn and fully expecting a fair few moments where I’ll question my life choices, but I’m so ready to get stuck in now

Still trying to convince myself I can squeeze an ultra or two into the next few months, because apparently training for an Ironman isn’t quite enough to keep me entertained.

We’ll see how that one goes 🤙🏼

Cardiff Half through the years 🥹🏃🏼‍♀️

2019 — 2:15
2024 — 1:54
2025 — 1:41
2026 — 1:40

Same race. Very different versions of me.

In 2019, I don’t think I could ever have imagined that the girl crossing the line in 2:15 would one day be disappointed with a 1:40 half marathon 😂

In 2019 I met @debzj77 after turning up to a beginners’ run club, and three weeks later she somehow persuaded me I could run a half marathon. She didn’t leave my side the entire way, ripped a lot of shit into me for my questionable nutrition strategy 😂 and I crossed that finish line absolutely over the moon with a 2:15.

It was the furthest I’d ever run and basically the first proper training I’d done since damaging L4/L5 and tearing my ACL in 2014.

A few years passed, life happened and a lot of weight went on.

Then in 2024, I decided to turn my life around. I was about 15kg down by the time Cardiff came around, had only been properly running for a few months and completely blew myself away with a 1:54.

By 2025, I was around 20kg down and had worked my arse off all year. I got a weightlifting coach who taught me so, so much, became stronger than I’d been in years and genuinely thought I was in the shape of my life. Cardiff: 1:41.

Fast forward to now. Leaner than I ever thought possible, 30kg down overall and arguably fitter than I was when I raced a bike.

Four completely different versions of me. And looking at them side by side, I think each one was completely necessary to get me to where I am today.

It’s very easy to become obsessed with where you’re going and forget just how far you’ve already come.

And on that note… I’ve got a pretty exciting announcement to make over the next few days 👀

I can’t wait for what’s next 🫶🏼✨ taken in Cardiff by @elevatewithbecs_

Cardiff Half debrief 🏃🏼‍♀️

I think this one needs a bit of context, because I got a bit of backlash for saying I wasn’t happy with my time when, ultimately, I still ran a PB.

And I get it. A PB is a PB, and I am proud of that.

But I’ll also be the first to admit that I get very fixated on times. It’s probably one of the reasons ultra running is so good for me and my brain, every race, course and day is so different that there’s far less opportunity for me to obsess over a number.

Road racing? Different story. I’m toxic and I know about it😂

When the stats are telling me I’m capable of running a certain time, historically I’ve normally managed to match them, or usually beat them. Cardiff is only really the second race where I haven’t managed to do that.

Going into Sunday, I had 1:37–1:38 in my head.

I knew it was ambitious. I’d only had around five weeks of proper speed work after everything that happened earlier in the year, so I knew it was going to be tight. But my fitness through the back end of August and September has come on tenfold and, genuinely, I felt like it was there.

I finished with a chip time of 1:40:38, although my watch had me at 1:39-something.

And weirdly, I think that discrepancy taught me one of the biggest lessons from the race.

By the time I got around Roath, it was grim, but I was moving well. But according to my watch, I was still up on the time I thought I needed. So rather than going all in, I held. I was so conscious of wanting to finish strongly and not completely blow up that I didn’t push when I probably should have.

In hindsight? I wish I’d just emptied the tank. I wish I’d had the confidence to just let it all out.

Maybe I would have blown up. Maybe I wouldn’t have. But now in hindsight I’d rather have found out.

So yes, it’s a PB. Yes, I know 1:40 is a time plenty of people would be incredibly happy with. And yes, I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

But I also think it’s okay to acknowledge when you didn’t quite achieve what you set out to do. It’s ok to be stupidly ambitious, delusional & put everything into achieving crazy goals.

That doesn’t make the result bad. It just means I know there’s more to come ❤️‍🔥 by @elevatewithbecs_

Not ready to talk about the disappointment of the time but ran a pb, at one of my fave races in the sunshine so let’s hyper-fixate on the positives for once 😇

Full debrief in a few days.

Thanks for all the shouts, messages and love

Ps my low key best race advice is to find a puregym at the start of every race so you can shower, bag drop and warm up in peace 🤣 by @elevatewithbecs_

Wow, this race week has come around real fast 💨

Cardiff Half - arguably the race I’ve put the most pressure on myself for this year.

Back in April, I ran Newport Half with one goal in mind: a sub-1:40 PB. If I’m honest, I really got in my own head about it. I was in unreal shape, but I made mistakes on the day and ended up walking, shuffling and crying my way through the last 4km.

It was the first race I’d run where I didn’t get a PB (an unrealistic expectation long-term, I know), but I knew I had it in me, so I was absolutely gutted.

Fast forward a few weeks and I picked up a stupid injury during the Howum, resulting in five weeks off running. The rebuild since then has been slow, frustrating and a lot longer than I would have liked. But I’ve worked my arse off, with September being my biggest volume month of the year.

So many people have said to me, “A half is nothing compared to an ultra.”

But the truth is, they’re a completely different ball game.

Ultras are about mind over matter and keeping moving. A half marathon is 21.1km of knowing exactly what time you want to run and putting absolutely everything into holding yourself to it.

And I’m the first person to admit that I’m guilty of putting an enormous amount of pressure on myself when there’s a number attached.

So, time to taper, eat all of the carbs, and trust that I’ve done everything I can to get myself into the best shape possible for Sunday.

Whatever happens, I’m proud to be making it back to that start line.

Cardiff, I’m ready for you ❤️‍🔥🏁

Ran my little legs off and had the most fun I’ve ever had during a race doing so 🥹

Sad that the @pegasusultrarunning Slam is over, but so glad I finally found my legs again for the final race after five weeks off following the Howum and the subsequent ankle injury, and feeling like I’ve been chasing my tail all season.

I genuinely can’t quite believe that a 30-mile race now feels comfortable for someone who couldn’t run 5K a few years ago.

What a journey ❤️

Thanks to @mattphillipsphotography for the gorgeous pics to document the occasion 📸
