8️⃣ REASONS ELEVATING MOVEMENT EVENTS EXIST 1️⃣ After 15+ years in fitness & wellness… We’ve seen what’s possible and the disparity in opportunities. This space exists to create more equity and real access for instructors of color. 2️⃣ No two events are the same Our events always offer something different. They will always alternate between including movement sessions and including a professional-development sessions 3️⃣ The goal: for us all to become undeniable and take up space Limits have been placed on us in this industry we’re tearing them down. We’re here to show you that the possibilities are endless you can be who you want and do what you want! In these events, we elevate, build visibility, and grow together. 4️⃣ Be with your community Form friendships, have great conversations, and have fun together. Learn from each other and share your experiences. 5️⃣ A safe environment where you can just be No code-switching. If you’re tired, show up tired. If you’re burnt out, show up burnt out. You are accepted exactly as you are. 6️⃣ To be a platform you can use try things out & gain confidence. Want to be a DJ? We’ll hire you to DJ our event. Have a class idea? Teach it here. Feel nervous teaching? We’ll support you and build your confidence. 7️⃣ To create opportunities for ourselves and each other. Through the brands we partner with and the people in the room. Want to be an ambassador for a specific brand? Or teach somewhere? Let us know & we’ll help make it happen. 8️⃣ A collaborative space for us by us A space to learn new skills and attend the types of events you want. Last week @elevatingmovement was invited to bring our community to @lululemon Studio Yet x Take Up Space event Love at First Sweat created by @haynesjer in celebration of Black History Month with the purpose of giving Black leaders their flowers 🌹 We had the honor of bringing instructors and personal trainers who hadn’t YET had the opportunity to work with @lululemon, and watching them step into that space felt powerful. Every instructor was gifted an outfit from their new unrestricted power collection and led through a killer workout (with an absolute banging playlist 🔥) by @jenna.deleon This is the entire point of Elevating Movement. To foster real relationships between brands and instructors. To create access and expansion at every stage of your career. To build rooms where everyone gets to win. Whether you’re just starting out or already leading from the front, we believe in uplifting our community in every way we can, connecting you to aligned opportunities, amplifying your voice, and supporting you as you build the career you deserve. AfroTech 2024 ✨ Can’t believe I didn’t do a recap post for @afro.tech last year! (Voiceover by me 🎙️) That trip was everything I needed, especially right after the election, and it sparked the idea for the events portion of @elevatingmovement ! As someone who geeks out on professional development and learning, and as one of the pioneers in VR fitness who was isolated as the only Black person in the space, I’d wanted to go to AfroTech for ages. Finally being there was everything I imagined and more. I’m so grateful for the experience, to all the speakers I heard, the people I met, and to @blavity for creating this space for us. It enabled me to dream bigger for myself and my business. As @emmagrede says: you can’t be what you don’t see, and this experience gave me the chance to truly see what I can be and create. #MoveForTheCulture where it all began in 2020. A global movement. Over 260 instructors, studios, brands, and gyms worldwide got involved. We moved, raised money for organizations & charities supporting Black communities, and most importantly, those who joined pledged what they were doing or would do to address the lack of equity, inclusion, and accessibility in fitness and wellness. The idea for #MoveForTheCulture came after conversations calling in companies and brands who had remained silent. The common theme? Many didn’t know what to say or how to address their communities. #MoveForTheCulture provided tools, a platform, and a framework to help companies communicate openly, take meaningful action, and create more inclusive environments. We made it okay for brands to acknowledge they were learning and taking time, because speaking up, even imperfectly, is better than staying silent. #MoveForTheCulture planted the seed for Elevating Movement, and since then, we’ve grown, evolved, and sharpened our mission: TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF FITNESS AND WELLNESS AND BUILD A CULTURE WHERE EVERYONE HAS THE SPACE TO CONNECT, MOVE, GROW, AND SHINE.
